556200 They are formative - you can see it in the way we persist in telling stories, using names for things and crafting tiny instances of lore in our quotidian experiences

556200 I enjoy a lot of the imagery and discussions of belief, as well. I like how histories and lore are woven in and out of the whole thing.

556200 The chaos is toned down, even in Rincewind, when you get to the later things, but yes. This is a crafted and cohesive tale.

Are you a Christmas-y person? Do you think this was well-suited to your season?

[Also, if you like Susan, you can and should read Thief of Time. It's the next book for her. The first is Soul Music.]

556200 Ooh, you even ended in olly! You are in the spirit. This series holds a special place in my heart, and Hogfather ranks highly within. It is not a...hm. Traditional holiday celebration, but it is one in its own way. I still love the good saccharine specials, but I keep to my own favorites, mostly...

556200 Let's get real here, friends, I love Christmas. I love this book. I have read it before and will happily ramble on about it for hours with you. Talk to me!

556200 Oh, goodness. Now I see it, too.

556200 Anyone making headway?

I can see why people read on, for certain!

556200 That is an impressive achievement! I can't say I have any great interest in the series, but I wondered. Thank you.

How did the Wheel of Time transition go? I've not read them, but I know my husband read the whole kit and kaboodle. I've not previously had good experiences with abrupt changes in a series, but I know that Sanderson had notes to work with...and, of course, a well-established canon.

556200 Mmhm. We need to work on this.

Sigh. This seems a problem.

556200 Okay, so the episode for this goes up next week, but you'll see that neither me nor Mr B were deeply impressed if you look at our stars.

556200 Anybody want to get some last words in before 11AM eastern tomorrow?
Asking because of reasons.

556200 Unless it is the sequel to Rithmatist.
Oct 12, 2018 04:10PM

556200 I'm glad you're enjoying this! Is it your first Sanderson?
Oct 11, 2018 08:11PM

556200 If I seem cryptic, it is with good reason. Well, two of them. Currently, the biggest factor is not being at a proper keyboard.

556200 I was not impressed in the end, though I finished the book with a headlong rush and stayed up too late. I like and dislike any number of things, but I have to say Rithmatist remains, soundly, my favorite.
Construction-wise, the Alcatraz books rank higher as well, but are tied with end opinion, because their narration wore out for me.
I need to reread Elantris, because I recall really liking that one, but not why.
