Good goals Jackie! Enjoy your reads.

I've slimmed down my number of challenges and increased my numbers for the remaining chosen.

Hello seasoned challengers! On December 14, 2011 Goodreads introduced BETA Testing for a Challenge Tracker. So beginning January 2012 you and I set on a journey to tracking our personal challenges. (I never noticed an actual launch. Are we still BETA testing subjects?)

I am in wonder of my personal changes in what I deemed important for me to track for a year.
I remember when I declared that "dead tree books" were the only way I wanted to read, then I began to challenge myself to add some audiobooks. Now I listen almost exclusively to audiobooks.
I wanted to show support for Goodreads authors by reading mostly THIER BOOKS. Now I find that there are very few authors who are not a Goodreads author.
I thought that mysteries were the only genre I would enjoy. Now thanks to group participation and heeding friends recommendations , I find myself reading (and enjoying) so many genres that I would never have chosen to read.
I have found that the world's library is so vast that I don't need to guiltily read books that "I should read." So many others I can enjoy more.
After all of these years, I have never easily read my own home library. How can I resist all that are available from my varied libraries.
Non-Fiction is no longer boring, if I choose the right subjects!
Sooooo the Challenge Yourself trackers that I sign up for today are very different from those I employed back in 2012.

Excellent List!
Jan 01, 2024 02:19AM

59822 This year's focus went waaay away from my original January thoughts.. And on review, I am not concerned about it. I got involved in several challenges. They were fun but I put a lot of pressure on myself to complete them. I plan to slow down in 2024.

I joined GoodReads in 2011. Since those early days I have changed my reading habits a lot, and my goals have narrowed down a lot.

I no longer need to track how many audiobooks I listen to, I do that almost exclusively now. I don't challenge myself to borrow books; now I rarely buy one. Interesting group challenges have greatly expanded my willingness to try a range of genres. And the group challenges I do choose usually have intriguing themes.

I still want to set some of these catalog challenges to keep me on track, and you will find I will be using less of them!

59822 I've noticed that the combined reporting of all of our goals combined seems to be broken. Honestly I don't think Goodreads is concerned with the support of challenges anymore. (Did they ever get out of BETA?)

It does seem though that our individual challenges are being calculated correctly.

I hope you will join us, if you stick with GoodReads.

If you find another application to use, I'd be interested in hearing about it. I am very disappointed in the new GoodReads format. I'm sure it is a good marketing tool for Amazon but it is a functional disaster for readers. I have yet to find a way to track the correct editions without cumbersome maneuvers!

Glad that you are still hanging on. There aren't many of us but I do find that the challenges keep me somewhat focused.

I have withdrawn from some of the challenges that I participated in previously. Many weren't really a challenge for me anymore. i.e. I get all my reads from libraries now, and almost exclusively borrow them in audio. So Where's Your Card or Hear Ye are no longer a challenge.

Hope you find some Good Reads in 2023.
