Just finished Tankbread - loved it.. and reviewed it. Just bought the follow-up too :) Tankbread 2: ImmortalGreat story - set in Australia even and some interesting characters.
just added Alien Species Intervention Books 1-3 - and it's a FREE e-book from Amazon until 28th Jan. :) Looks awesome, has some great reviews.
Phrynne wrote: "If I can get hold of a copy I think I will try Alas, Babylon"hmmm, that looks really interesting.. might have to add that one too :)
I am going to re-read The Stand. I first read it many years ago and loved it then. Be interesting to see if I still love it as much, after devouring many more books in the genre.
Finally found a good one for December Claus: Legend of the Fat ManLooks like a quirky one :) LOVE super heroes!!
ummm.. I did enjoy the mini-series on TV (mainly because Richard Chamberlain played the priest LOL) BUT I am VERY VERY glad I read the book first!!
The Thorn Birds is my all time favourite book, Kathryn.. you will fall in love with all the characters AND Colleen McCulluogh. You will forget how big it is because the time will fly by. I have lost count of how many times I have re-read it :)

Elaine wrote: "Carol wrote: "My choice for this challenge is Peter Carey, True History of the Kelly Gang. Have a special affinity with the Kelly gang (being an ex-Kelly myself) and never read a book that is bas..."a friend gave me this book for the exact opposite reason .. she doesn't think he was a hero and felt that Peter Carey makes him into a good guy too much LOL I had to remind her that it IS a novel.
My choice for this challenge is Peter Carey, True History of the Kelly Gang. Have a special affinity with the Kelly gang (being an ex-Kelly myself) and never read a book that is based on fact but is actually a novel. Reviewers say that Peter Carey captures the voice of Ned Kelly throughout the book using the terminology of that time. Should be an interesting read.
Finally finished Lexicon.. put it on my "didn't like" list. Well I must be missing something - most others rated this book highly.. BUT.. it started off great - brilliant concept but by halfway through I was just lost. The plot was all over the place.. and, to me, just got stupid. Then I got to wishing it would finish.. hate to NOT finish a book. By two thirds of the way through I realised I was just wasting my time, read the last chapter and thanked god I hadn't wasted any more time on it.. Sorry, author, just didn't do it for me.
Finally got the Lexicon from the library today.. so I am doing Sept. in October, which means I will probly do October's in November, but I really want to November's challenge in November LOL...Enjoying Lexicon - really great start.. looks like a very late night tonight
I'm an "Eclectic Reader"..You read for entertainment but also to expand your mind. You're open to new ideas and new writers, and are not wedded to a particular genre or limited range of authors.
which is about right.. I do read just about anything (except romances and westerns) and enjoy finding new authors.
Jennie - Daystarz Books wrote: "Just picked up Matthew Reilly The Six Sacred Stones and Seven Ancient Wonders in the library bargain box for $1.50 each"wow, what a bargain! I have those books and loved them both :)
Thanks Joanne and Brenda. I will check the local library. and I didn't know about IBooks so thanks for that Joanne :) Ahhh.. IBooks / itunes.. allergic to Ios LOL. will check them out though :)
OK. My first challenge with the group :) Now to find one I want to read.. and can afford :)Found four that look interestig..
hmm.. first stop - ebooks at Gosford Library - no joy.
Lexicon, by Max Barry - $16.73 at the Kindle store! I REFUSE to pay hard back prices for an ebook.
Blood Secret, by Jaye Ford, $16.66 at the kindle store.. ggrrrr.
Good news, Bad news, by Maggie Groff, $14.76. Bah!!
Dreaming of Zhou Gong, by Traci Harding (LOVE Traci Harding) $15.95 :( /sigh
THAT is why I rarely read new releases (unless that arrive at the local op shop :) ).
First challlenge big FAIL LOL
