I'm going to drop my current Audible, I'm really enjoying it and would love to have the Bees to talk with!
it is squeaking in at 448...I know that's 2 short. But I call it close enough.
I read it for the first time, and I hate to say it, but I was surprised at how readable it was and that I could hardly put it down! I've had a love/hate relationship with books on the prestigious awards list. They have always been way more miss than hit - but I loved this book!Spoiler talk:
@ QueraIt - love the response that Min Jin Lee gives about suicide. I agree that it isn't a sign of weakness. And as far as Noa's death, I can understand he didn't see a way forward where he could find a way to reconcile the shame he felt with the circumstances of his life. It seems so unthinkable, but he was a very GOOD man, raised with his father and uncle's principles to a fault.
I'm not sure how I ultimately feel about Hansu, but I was surprised that he did genuinely love Sunja, not just that she had his son. His actions during the war were heroic. And, I agree on Yoseb. His life ended up tragic and miserable, which made the lives of those around him so much more difficult as well.
I did like how Mozasu developed as a character - and Solomon's character as well. I don't disagree that the ending of the book seemed a little rushed...but it also had the potential to be the book that never ended as it followed life after life.
I gave it 5 stars and I have told a few of my friends they need to pick it up.
I finished
yesterday - It was easy to fall into, and ultimately quite depressing. It is not hard to see privacy getting harder and harder to find. Has anyone watched the movie? Tom Hanks and Emma Watson are big names - but when I looked at the IMDB it seems like it's missing some vital characters.

I HATE horror movies. Like Margie I get nightmares, and I just can't unsee gory, scary things. But, I LOVE reading horror because I can chose whether to picture it or not. So, the fact of the scary doesn't bother me, it's the images that get me.
Bee Books! I'm excited to get to Queen Bee and am hoping I can get beyond that. Like maybe Incredible Queen Bee or something.I'll be back after I've figured out which of my books qualify. :)
I am all about anyone who wants to celebrate Lavar Burton. Reading Rainbow was one of my favorites as a child. I loved how magical he made reading. I was always super excited by finding one of the books he read in the library or bookstore.
I still haven't pulled this off my shelf...I'll get to it. I bought it more because I thought my daughter would enjoy it, but she is super picky about books.
I have
as well, and I've tried starting it a couple times and then put it down. But I agree, The Broken Girls was well done, very atmospheric and a mystery throughout. AND I agree that The Sun Down Motel is even better.
I agree about the coincidences of the cousins finding each other totally at random was pretty convenient. I guess when you're the author, you can make people go where you want. As far as Reese, I feel like he could have his own book. But, there is also a lot of privacy and respect in how he is written, and in the lives of my trans friends, I feel that is how they would prefer to be treated. It's an aspect to their lives, but they would prefer it not to be center stage.
I loved it too - I haven't read any of his other books, but I really did love the various timelines, and REALLY want to know how Nora does in her chosen life.
Those seem to be more of Alice Hoffman's thing...kind of like Stephanie Meyer gave us sparkly vampires. There may be a few of those legends that have more of a historical basis, but I think some are her own.
I read it, and honestly wasn't thrilled. I'm happy to ship the book to someone who would like to read it.
