94615 I have no objections either to keeping goodreads or making LT primary. I've heard that Amazon has a 40% stake in LT, so switching for that reason alone is weak. However, contributing reviews that appear in the JLC sounds like a noble thing for AkLA to get behind.
94615 As Alaskans, many of us have an interest in the polar regions as well. So, what's your favorite book set in either polar region? Mine would be

South by Ernest Shackleton

I realize this is written from Shackleton's own perspective, but I love this story of how quiet competence and faith in one another can get you through any situation. My favorite scene from the book came when they had been stranded on ice for days with diminishing supplies and someone came to Shackleton and said he just wanted to die. Shackleton made him the cook. Within hours this formerly suicidal man was lost in his task of feeding the men with the catch of the day. I also appreciate that Shackleton didn't blame others for his crew's predicament.
