i'm with Alex about the Runaways, I saw it last year and really liked it! it actually changed my perspective of her. apart from the Runaways, i've seen Sid and nancy, I'm not there, the last days( the one with Michael Pitt playing Kurt Cobain), The Wall, Almost famous and some other stuff like Detroit Rock City. I actually don't enjoy watching rock movies that much, to be honest.

Thanks, Raquel, i'll check them out!:)
Oh, it's ok, Holly:) I hope I didn't offend you. I'm just a little too obsessed with classifying music genres:D
I don't remember saying Punk has rules. I simply said Nirvana and Green Day are not post-punk bands.
No, no, your joy division tattoo has nothing to do with your life, nope. :D
Ok, this really looks awesome ! I bet it hurt a lot.
I haven't listened to the hives or the switches but neither Nirvana nor Green Day is a post-punk band.
It was a song called the light of day, day of darkness by Green Carnation. I used to listen to an Italian prog band called Nosound. You might want to check out Polish prog rock/metal bands such as Riverside, Lunatic Soul, Indukti, Votum, Quidam, etc. That country has a knack for producing awesome bands.
But most of my favorite progressive bands come either from the USA or Scandinavian countries. And my all time favorite band would probably be Pain of Salvation followed closely by the Mars Volta or Tool or Dredg. My other fave prog bands are Beyond Twilight, Opeth, Mastodon, Green Carnation, Redemption, TSO, Dream Theater, The Mayan factor, Ayreon, Ambeon, Twisted into Form, Enslaved, Myrath, Buckethead and so on
BTW, I think you're going to enjoy Rishloo or Prisma a lot since you are a Tool fan. Prisma sounds more like a Tool rip-off but Rishloo is a really solid band, its singer sounds a lot like Maynard.
Also, has anyone listened to some good prog metal album released recently? I was just searching for new albums and come across this and thought it was pretty good. I haven't listened to something new and good for a long time.

Don't worry about long songs, one of my favorite songs ever lasts for 60 minutes. I like long songs more than short songs when listening to progressive music. I'll check these songs out. I don't remember the title of it, but I've listened to one album by Yes, i think it featured four songs altogether and they were really long.
Don't even get me started on Maynard's wine business! I just hope the new album won't be about wines and vineyard and that kind of stuff!Well, I was listening to APC even before Tool, so it's kind of small consolation for me. Actually these last two years haven't been much productive in terms of progressive metal. I mean, i can only remember a few good albums released in 2012/2013.
What other prog metal bands do you listen to, Raquel?
I've been waiting for a new Tool album for seven fucking years, when are they going to release something new? My favorite Tool is 10.000 days followed by Lateralus. Anyway, I think I haven't listen to Yes much to really appreciate their music, maybe you should recommend me some albums, Alex! But King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Van Der Graaf Generator are my favorite prog rock bands too! I love some modern prog rock bands such as Porcupine Tree, Sylvan but most of them are really not for me.
I guess the best thing to do here would be to share some favourite tracks from some favourite bands? I'll be back...
Good idea! But we can discuss and share anything related to prog rock/metal music. news, new album releases, videos, tracks, you name it.
No, hardcore isn't a subgenre of prog metal or prog rock, but we can discuss it in a different thread within this group. Um, Dream Theater maybe? That is one of the most popular prog metal bands ever.
