Arkham, Massachusetts. Founded in 1667 by John Arkham, Roger Phelps, and William Derleth just north of Boston on the shore of the Miskatonic River, from which the local University got its name, Arkham has always been the center of strange and unusual happenings. The name itself comes from the local native dialect denoting the negative spiritual activity which haunts the Western Hills.
