[close] The story "The Five People You Meet in Heaven” is about a man named Eddy as he meets 5 people whose lives he has affected or had affected him. Eddy is a matinence worker at a boardwalk named Ruby Pier. He has been there most of his life. His father worked there and he and his family lived in an apartment near there. The story starts off with Eddy dying at the age of 83. A suspension rollercoaster was stuck. And Eddy and his coworkers had to save the people stuck on the top of it. With Eddy at the bottom he clears the people so they don’t crowed. Suddenly the coaster snapped causing the ride's car to free fall. As the car is falling, Eddy sees a little girl stuck under the area where the car will fall. He struggles to get her because of his age and trips and falls and reaches her but then he dies. He finds himself in heaven not knowing if he saved the girl or not.
This story was very engaging. Mitch Albom never failed in this book he only succeeded. He did really well in descriptions of how Eddy traveled through heaven to meet the 5 people. In this category, no one has written a better book. I consider this book as a fantasy gospel kind of book. This book in fact is my favorite book I have ever read. His visuals he puts in your mind, the suspension of not knowing if Eddy saved the girl or not until the final pages. There was no dull point in this book. Sometimes it even might bring you to tears. Album’s book makes you feel the emotions that Eddy feels and the feeling at the time. “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” is a great, gripping emotional book that makes you want to keep reading.

[close] The book I read was The Afterlife by Gary Soto. This book was very interesting and fun to read overall. This book has a very interesting plot; that is because the main character, a seventeen-year-old Latino-American named Chuy is stabbed to death in a nightclub within the first three pages of the book. The rest of the book is all about his journey as a ghost as he finds out just how much people actually cared about him and his search for his killer’s motive. His time as a ghost is limited as he finds that within a few days, his ghost body will soon disappear and he has no idea what will happen after that. Throughout the book several things happen. He meets other ghosts, interacts with people that are alive and finds out how much he is missed by friends and family. He discovers what it means to be dead, and what it meant to be alive.

In my opinion this was a good book. I would give it four out of five stars. The genre of this book could be a drama or horror book depending on how you would view a horror book. It is this way because it has a good plot to be a horror book, but it is a fairly happy book and isn't very scary. The story was very good and extremely easy to follow. The author used good transition words and the book flowed well. The author used very good descriptive words at some points and at other points there were none. He described the initial death scene very well but at some points where he was just flying around, nothing happened and it wasn't interesting. Despite this flaw, the story was still easy to follow in these parts. I think this book was very unique. I have never read a story that is told in the first-person of a ghost. It was interesting and made me think. I have read better books but this one is definitely good and well written. I would recommend reading it. Even with all these positive points, the book didn’t have very many descriptive words in some parts and that’s why I gave it four out of five stars. Altogether, I enjoyed the experience of reading the book and I’m glad I picked this.
