Shannon Ha Bry, I had a feeling you were gonna make this list soon.

message 2: by Katyana (new)

Katyana I am happy to say that I haven't read most of these. But I did **start** Fallen and Rumors... drawn in by the lovely lure of their covers... and tossed them aside pretty early on. But being drawn in by the covers hasn't always turned out so badly for me. I was drawn to Sunshine by Robin McKinley by the cover, and holy crap I loved that book.

message 3: by Bry (new)

Bry Shannon, we have to spread the word! We must try to protect others from the prettiness!

Katyana, I have Sunshine on my shelf right now waiting to be read! Glad to hear it's great!

message 4: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I loved Sunshine too! It's one of those books that people either seem to love or hate - I for one was only upset that she will never write a sequel.

I like that cover that you posted better than the recent reprint too:

Sunshine by Robin McKinley

I have this one:

Sunshine by Robin McKinley

Lol, I actually haven't read the ones that are up there that you posted. Most of them I own too ...

Kat Kennedy I'm tempted to add Brightly Woven to this list as it has a beautiful cover but apparently I'm in the minority about that one.

Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken

Shannon Kat wrote: "I'm tempted to add Brightly Woven to this list as it has a beautiful cover but apparently I'm in the minority about that one"

That's one that I really wanted to read. But go ahead and add it! I added some that I think some people liked a lot more than I did. Who cares? It's your opinion.

message 8: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Oh yey!

Oh and I'm reading Sunshine at the moment and really enjoying it!

message 9: by Katyana (last edited Jun 04, 2010 05:55PM) (new)

Katyana Would I be wildly in the minority if I voted to add Fragile Eternity to the list? It is a pretty cover...

Fragile Eternity (Wicked Lovely, #3) by Melissa Marr

... but it killed the Wicked Lovely series for me. By the end, I loathed - literally - all the characters. I can't read a book when I find myself chanting "Die, die, die" while reading about the protagonists.

But Sunshine was great. And I agree, I am sad there won't be a sequel. Ah well.

message 10: by Kimathy (new)

Kimathy mmm, i wonder why twilight is not on this list.

message 11: by Bry (last edited Jun 04, 2010 06:04PM) (new)

Bry Haven't read Fragile Eternity, but I just don't get where the chicks forehead is! LOL!

message 12: by Katyana (new)

Katyana Oh nooooo, is Wondrous Strange pretty blah? I just picked that one up.

It's cover is plain, but if you are looking for a fun faery book, this one is pretty awesome imo:

Bones of Faerie by Janni Lee Simner

message 13: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I haven't read Fragile Eternity, but then, it's your opinion!

And honestly, I didn't put Twilight on the list because, 1, I haven't read it, and 2, I don't think the cover is beautiful.

message 14: by Shannon (new)

This is the list for you Bry, lol.

message 15: by Kimathy (new)

Kimathy yah, i don't think the covers beautiful either but I've heard a lot of other people say it is, so whatever. :P

LOL! I have voted on that list before! It wasn't until I saw that list that I realized just HOW MANY books have covers like that!

Shannon Kimathy wrote: "yah, i don't think the covers beautiful either but I've heard a lot of other people say it is, so whatever. :P"

Well, the people that think it has a beautiful cover probably think it's a good book too, so that would be a whole different list.

message 18: by Vered (new)

Vered Bry, I haven’t read none of the above. Yey for me I guess :) Although I heard great things about the summoning (going to read it for this month challenge) and Graceling. Will see :)

message 19: by AH (new)

AH I liked Graceling. And I will read anything by Kelley Armstrong. (The Summoning was not spectacular, but it is YA. Her Men of the otherworld series is great).

Desperado AH wrote: "I liked Graceling. And I will read anything by Kelley Armstrong. (The Summoning was not spectacular, but it is YA. Her Men of the otherworld series is great)."

I usually like me some Kelley Armstrong, but I thought she dumbed down her YA series. I know she can write much better than that & just cause your marketing for teens doesn't mean you have to feed them crap. They're not stupid(for the most part). I feel the same way about Kim Armstrong's YA series. Some authors just can't make a great transition from PNR/UF to YA. I liked Gena Showalter's debut YA series though so maybe there's hope.

message 21: by Sarah (new)

Sarah the ulies...series
by Scott Westerfeld...was awesome i couldnt but those books down there never a dule moment

i loved the books myself im waiting for wounderous strange 3 ...1211! enjoy!

I haven't read the Summoning series, but I really enjoyed Graceling (4 stars) and have had the sequel Fire on my shelves waiting to be read for months.

message 25: by AH (new)

AH Didn't like Fire as much as Graceling, but I think I am in the minority.

message 26: by Gemma (last edited Jun 06, 2010 10:45AM) (new)

Gemma Swoon by Nina Malkin & Hush, Hush are probs the two biggest examples of me judging a book by their awesome covers/blurbs, only to reel back in horror at the writing... Eugh. :L

I loved Shiver, and Brightly Woven, but HATED The Summoning with a passion. I just can't connect with Armstrong's stories, she leaves me cold every time.

But I completely agree on the Wicked Lovely front - the first two were pretty good, but the latest books have made me hate everything about the series - it's all so doom and gloom. Honestly, I'm expecting a meteor to hit them all and wipe out man and fey kind in the last one, it's that depressing...

message 27: by Desperado (new)

Desperado I haven't read the latest book in the Wicked Lovely series yet (is still being ordered at the library) but I do agree that Fragile Eternity was crap. I hate what they did to Seth & I've never liked that whole Aislinn/Seth/Keenan love triangle.

AH, it's ok that you didn't like Fire. It's about what all of us thought were crap books hidden by beautiful covers. You don't have to follow the crowd.

message 28: by Faith (new)

Faith a lot of these books are REALLY great

message 29: by Penny (new)

Penny Kat wrote: "I'm tempted to add Brightly Woven to this list as it has a beautiful cover but apparently I'm in the minority about that one.

Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken"

I say, if you thought the book was awful, add it. Like Shannon said, it's your opinion. And I think it has a beautiful cover (but I liked this book, but not because it's well written, because it's not. I NEED to write a review to explain why I like this book but I'm not feeling particularly motivated to do so).

message 30: by Penny (new)

Penny I just added Wings by April Lynn Pike. And yeah, I didn't finish reading it. Heck, I couldn't get past the first few pages. The dialogue was just too stupid.

I think it has a beautiful cover too, but if the insides don't match then it belongs on the list! You're also not the only one I've heard say it's not good.

message 32: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Penny, I could actually understand why you liked it! I thought Braken showed a lot of potential as a story teller but the writing really got to me.

message 33: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia Kat wrote: "I'm tempted to add Brightly Woven to this list as it has a beautiful cover but apparently I'm in the minority about that one.

I added BRIGHTLY WOVEN
:P

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. And hmm, maybe I shouldn't have added it, because I actually HATE the cover design - that girl on the front looks weird

message 34: by Shannon (new)

Shannon That cover actually really reminds me of Tori Amos's CD, From the Choirgirl Hotel:

The singles from that CD all had similar artwork as well:

Makes me wonder if the designer for the book is a Tori fan.

message 35: by Penny (new)

Penny I never made the connection but, yeah, the girl on the cover looks a little like Tori.

You know, I'm not a huge fan of lily-white skin and red hair, but I think the girl on the cover is pretty in an unusual way. She has piercing blue eyes and that really beautiful shade of red hair, the sort that hardly anyone is lucky enough to have naturally. Also, I think the cover is just artsy looking. *shrugs*

But yeah, it wasn't written well. So I don't blame others for not liking it.

message 36: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I meant the smooshed face against the glass in profile reminded me of that CD cover art. Not so much her actual looks.

message 37: by Bry (new)

Bry It does look like the Amos cover art! It's like they are being smothered with a pillow or something. LOL! Haven't read Brightly Woven but haven't heard to many great things about it either.

message 38: by Shannon (last edited Jun 06, 2010 09:17PM) (new)

Shannon I had a friend tell me she loved it, but she also liked a couple of teen books I despised. I don't think I'll buy Brightly Woven, but I might get it from the library.

message 39: by Kat Kennedy (new)

Kat Kennedy Seriously, get it from the library.

message 40: by Mariya (last edited Jun 07, 2010 10:32AM) (new)

Mariya im seriously surprised at some of the books listed...b/c i only have a problem wit a few up above from the books ive read. surprised to see hush hush all the way at the top b/c i actually thought that book was really good.

but wings was horrible. to me its like a book u would read to a 5 year old. i couldnt finish it.

message 41: by Bry (new)

Bry hush hush was one of the reasons I actually started this poll Mariya! LOL! Between it, Fallen, and Bleeding Violet I just couldn't take being lied to anymore by the pretty cover art! :D

message 42: by Shannon (new)

Are there any on the list that you're glad people added because you were thinking about reading them and now you're not?

message 43: by Bry (new)

Bry Shannon wrote: Are there any on the list that you're glad people added because you were thinking about reading them and now you're not?

The Luxe series for sure, and maybe the Melissa Marr books and Libba Bray books. But still on the fence about those.

message 44: by Shannon (new)

Shannon I liked Wicked Lovely, although some people say the series suffers as you go. The other two I still want to try though.

message 45: by Katyana (new)

Katyana I liked Wicked Lovely, but the series collapsed for me in book 3 (Fragile Eternity). Book 2 was alright, but it was really its own thing - sort of a spin-off, following some of the secondary characters from the first book.

And I also liked A Great and Terrible Beauty - I thought it made a good start to a potentially solid series - but book 2 (Rebel Angels) ended up being so bad (really convoluted, iirc) that I never bothered to pick up book 3 (The Sweet Far Thing). Alas.

message 46: by Desperado (new)

Desperado I loved the Gemma Doyle series up until the last one. I've got about 100 pages left & don't have the courage to read the rest since I found out a much loved character died from reading the last page or so. Shannon, stop looking at me like that.

message 47: by Bry (new)

Bry Dont read the last page!!!!!

message 48: by Desperado (new)

Desperado *Runs from Bry* I do NOT want to be at the receiving end of your pimp hand ROFL.
