,

A list dedicated to books that can help a reader understand the economic, social, political, philosophical and/or literary events of the 19th century.. Historical fiction, contemporary works from the 19th century, non-fiction are all OK. But the topic has to be ABOUT the actual events and/or people of the area. As an example, a science fiction novel from the 19th century would not be appropriate for this list.

I created this list in an effort to learn more about this century that seems to have had a profound effect on the shaping of our modern world. I have a lot from the U.S., but I am trying to expand to a more global perspective.
