Update: Please go to the new list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
Please add any books that will be eligible for the 2017 version of the Goodreads Choice Awards.
Books published in the United States in English, including works in translation and other significant rereleases, between November 16, 2016, and November 15, 2017, will be eligible for the 2017 Goodreads Choice Awards.
I created this list to provide a place for people to find and promote eligible books in time for people to read the books before the first round of voting because write-in votes are only allowed during the first week of voting.
It could also be a handy reminder to read any eligible and interesting titles on your shelves before it is too late to vote.
Yes, I am creating this early so that we don't miss any worthy books. It's especially easy to forget that late November and December books are eligible for the next year's award. It's OK to change your mind, you can remove and re-order books at any time.
You can add any eligible books, not only the ones you vote for. I will delete all books that are not eligible.

I thought I had completed my profile, but I'll take another look just in case. Thank you for your advice!
Sure. They do change the categories some each year, but I'm pretty sure they usually include a poetry category.
Please verify that books are eligible for the 2017 Goodreads Choice Awards before adding them to this list. Thanks

Chilazon wrote: "Why is "13 Reasons Why" on this list? It's not from this year."Probably because people don't read the directions and I don't have as much time as I would like to devote to policing the list.
Please just post any books you see that aren't eligible and I will delete them.
If you are interested in any of the books I voted for, please vote for them now. I will start dropping books that I voted for to seed the list.

It will not allow me to add books that I authored.

Aren't you a STAR. I actually have that are eligible. (I was BUSY last/this year!
Detour
The Zen Detective
Lady Blackwing (this is ebook only, so don't add it if only print editions qualify.)
Thanks again. I was waiting all year for October so I could enter these titles and was disappointed when I found that I couldn't.
I added Zen Detective, but Detour says it was published too early to be eligible this year. I can add Lady Blackwing if you want, but I doubt an 11 page story would be added to the ballot even if you could get enough people to write it in.
It has started!Go here to write in your votes; https://www.goodreads.com/choiceaward...
Write in are only allowed today through Sunday, November 5th.
Remember that voting for any of the 15 nominations in each of the 20 categories doesn't really count because those votes will be cleared before the next round. Writing in a selection this week doesn't mean that you have to vote for it in the last round, it just means you think it should be on the ballot.
If you try to write in an eligible book and the system claims it is not eligible, post in this thread to get it fixed: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Any questions?

Thank you. I added a couple of write-ins.
There is no need to vote here for books that have been officially nominated. Votes here are not votes for the awards.
Since the intention of this list is to promote write in candidates, I am deleting the officially nominated books. The plan is to document the deletions with links here. It will likely take multiple posts since a large amount of the books on the first page were officially nominated. My plan is to include the approximate list number (it may have changed between the time I recorded and the time I delete it, since people are still voting and I'll likely have to delete in batches) and the number of votes for at least the top 100. After that I may only include the number of votes.

I forgot about this detail of the rules "Only one book in a series may be nominated per category"So I will delete
Wildfire that had 67 votes because White Hot is an official nomination.
Lies, Damned Lies, and History with 3 votes because And the Rest is History is an official nomination.
Please let me know if you see any others that should be deleted under this rule or because of being ineligible.
Please don't add back titles that have been officially nominated.
I'm confused. Not sure how you get officially nominated. And I tried to "write-in" my picture book, YOU KNOW WHAT? Clavis Books, September 1, 2017, illustrated by Nynke Talsma and written by me, Carol Gordon Ekster. Just not sure the write-in worked.
The goodreads staff selects 15 popular books in each category, then we get to write in suggestions during the first round. 5 titles will be selected from the write-in votes in each category and added to the original 15 for the second round. If you go back to that category, it will show your vote at the top of the page. If it didn't work, try again and see what the error message is. You have to search for the book first, then vote.
Deborah wrote: "Another list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1..."Some interesting selections there. Thanks for sharing.

You can stop voting on this list now. Write-in votes are no longer allowed.
Please leave comments to let me know what you liked or disliked about this list, so I can make improvements for next year's list.
Thanks for participating.
I have a question...I have noticed that poets on Instagram are promoting certain writers on the poetry list by telling people to vote for them. I just saw that last night. Is that fair? Are there rules? Or does anything go?

People should only vote for books they have read, but there is no way to enforce that.
I thought this is a very good idea to keep track of the eligible books I already read and to discover potential write-ins.Since we are in the final round now and there are no write-in votes allowed anymore, I wanted to remove my votes on this list.
Unfortunately I can only do this for the books that weren't already deleted, because they are official nominees now.
So the list keeps showing up in my profile with no books on it.
Any advice?
Thanks.
It's not because books were deleted, you can't just remove each vote separately to remove the list from your profile. There is a "remove my votes" link. The trick is that you have to go to your votes page by clicking on the words "my votes" in the right column. Then there will be a ink in the right column that says "remove my votes"
