ABEBOOKS: 50 BOOKS FOR AN 11-YEAR-OLD
"Below are 50 books that I and a few other colleagues recommend for a typical 11-year-old--some can be read at a much younger age while others are verging on the young adult genre. Some of these books I have revisited as an adult while reading to my eldest. Some are ageless classics and others are hyper modern. Some are better for one sex than the other. Some are sets or series so you are actually receiving more than 50 recommendations." - Richard Davies, on abebooks.com

The Ramona Collection, Vol. 1: Ramona the Brave / Ramona the Pest / Beezus and Ramona / Ramona Quimby, Age 8
Yuki: Is this intended to be a "closed list" (i.e., only the 50 books contained in the source list that your own original entries were taken from), or are additions by others welcome?
Here is a link to the original list (at the time I posted it I didn't know how to close it) http://www.abebooks.co.uk/books/child...
This list brings back memories. =] I read so many of those when I was a kid. It's missing a few though - Tamora Pierce and Suzanne Collins' books.
Themis-Athena wrote: "Yuki: Is this intended to be a "closed list" (i.e., only the 50 books contained in the source list that your own original entries were taken from), or are additions by others welcome?"Originally, yes, but it has since taken on a life of its own. This is the original list: http://www.abebooks.co.uk/books/child...
The Chronicles of Narnia is undoubtedly the BEST series of all time! If you want to read a fantasy/adventure story, then read Narnia for it is a full package series and not just that, it also have Bible themes in it!For Narnia and For Aslan!
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoohas a very graphic rape and is NOT a book for children. The Count of Monte Cristo is about revenge and suffering and is much too complicated and dark for even young adults.
Left Behind is an adult thriller where half the world disappears and everyone else fights for their lives.
The King's Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchy is a dry history book and not at all a children's book (and doesn't resemble the movie much, either).

The description says "Below are 50 books that I and a few other colleagues recommend for a typical 11-year-old--some can be read at a much younger age while others are verging on the young adult genre." Still the list is a lot longer than just those 50, which means people have been adding (which is undoubtedly where the titles you mentioned came from).
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo has been removed. When I added this list, I did not realize it would be "public" and I have not been monitoring it. I see 421 books have been added.
There are abridged versions of The Count of Monte Cristo available for younger readers.
Katie wrote: "Of Mice and Men is not a children's' book. I would NOT recommend it for an 11-year-old."Neither is To Kill a Mockingbird (#7) in my opinion, but still 78 people voted for it... Nor is Animal Farm (#104) or Lord of the Flies (#150) for that matter. Whoever thought they are should really re-read the books... There are other titles on this list I personally wouldn't consider books for an 11-year-old (and neither would the author, I imagine).
Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "I was one of the 78 - because I read and loved To Kill a Mockingbird at 12.":-) It's not meant as a criticism, it's just that judging by the description, I don't think what is meant for this Listopia is at what age you read a book (but I can be wrong of course) but the age for which a book is meant.
Something else by the way, based on reading the description, is that I doubt very much people are meant to add titles to this list. But seeing as there are five pages now (485 books), instead of the original 50 books, it will be a heck of a job correcting this... It's as Yuki said, when answering a question by Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large), the list started leading a live of its own...
Out of curiosity: Did you appreciate To Kill a Mockingbird the way it should be appreciated by an adult when you read it at age 12? I mean, many adult books can be read as just a simple story by a kid, even though they are not meant as children's books because there is far more to it then just a simple story.
Yuki Shimmyo wrote: "Here is a link to the original list (at the time I posted it I didn't know how to close it) http://www.abebooks.co.uk/books/child..."How do you close a list? It's years ago that I wanted to close a list of mine, but knowing how to close one might come in handy for the future :-)
You would have to ask a Super Librarian (a regular Librarian can't), and a "closed" or "frozen" list is actually one that no one can actually vote on.Alternately, you could ask librarians (there are several voting on it, including myself), to remove books not on the original list, and keep it "clean." This might be a lot of work, but might be the better solution.
Good list but I think some of them are for more mature kids however books are really awesome. For kids under 7 to 10. I would recommend books like moin and the monsters, tinkle digest, snow king’s daughter, The Monster hunters which you can find it on Getlitt - https://bit.ly/2Q0YxMR
Katie wrote: "Of Mice and Men is not a children's' book. I would NOT recommend it for an 11-year-old."I read it at school at around that age.
