message 1: by Priyam (new)

Priyam I couldn't get through 20 pages of this and the whole time I was either shaking my head in disbelief or laughing at their stupidity.

message 2: by Gunjari (new)

Gunjari of what? twilight?

message 3: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Wallace I just added Private, which is possibly the dumbest book I've ever read. Puh-lease, like teenage girls are THAT twisted!

Love (#1 BEATLES FAN IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE) What books r u guys talking about??

message 5: by Joanie (new)

Joanie Funny alot of these books are also on the best books ever lists. Twilight definatly is annoying but some of these other books ure arn't.

message 6: by C (new)

C Which book couldn't you get through the first 20 pages of?

message 7: by Jessup (new)

Jessup I can't believe some of the books on this list! I mean, many of them I understand, like anything by Anne Coulter or Mitch Albom. But some of the selections?? Catcher in the Rye??!!!! The Stand??? Frankenstein??? COME ON! Especially Catcher in the Rye - what could possibly be annoying about that book? I guess I love it so much, I take it personally if someone dislikes it...but I can't help but feel that if you aren't moved by that novel, you don't have a heart!

message 8: by Ikra (new)

Ikra Amesta yeah, the top five is really annoying!
But it's kinda hurting to see books like "The Catcher...", "On the Road", "Lord of the Rings" in the list. I mean, be serious next time!

message 9: by Anna (new)

Anna The Twilight series annoy me very much.

message 10: by Colleen (new)

Colleen W love the twilight series, uglies, the clique, and the harry potter series but i am younger than most of you so the way we view it is probably different!

message 11: by Anna (new)

Anna Colleengw wrote: "love the twilight series, uglies, the clique, and the harry potter series but i am younger than most of you so the way we view it is probably different!"

When you get older, just stick to Harry Potter.

message 12: by Daria (new)

Daria Twilight are the most horrible books written in history!!!!!!!!!

message 13: by Daria (new)

Daria And I see the Bible on the list. LOL. Even though I'm a Christian, I find it slightly annoying as well. LOL

message 14: by Shybabe13 (new)

Shybabe13 i kinda dont understand yes twilight series can be annoying because everyone has seen the movies read the books talk about it, but it will get played out so why hate it, its good while it last's i like the books myself so i dunno maybe you wanna be rebels against twilight but really uhhhh hmmmmm dont stress much lol it will be out of peoples minds at a later time, well for some anyways :]

message 15: by Jenn (new)

Jenn God! Great list! Half the books I voted for I didnt even read, Im just so tired of hearing about them that it pisses me off whenever they are mentioned (*cough* anything by Nicholas Sparks *cough*)!

message 16: by Hannah (new)

Hannah hm. some of these books are OK becuse i've read them myself. but i get most of these. I mean, twilight... harry potter... most series books that your friends recommend but you never know what to read next because theyre so long.

message 17: by Jo (new)

Jo Great list. Eat Pray Love should be in the top 10 IMO. A few more votes will get it there :)

message 18: by Niamh (new)

Niamh eat pray love should be no 1, but the time travelers wife??? nooooo!

message 19: by louise (new)

louise Winnie The Pooh? Seriously? Winnie the Pooh?

message 20: by Abby (new)

Abby Perkins Eat, Pray, Love is another one of those stupid boring white bread. books that make me mad that I didn't write so I could rake in the royalties!

message 21: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Nicholas Why is "Dragonflight" at the same rank as "Marley & Me." That is not a question. It's an expression of my extreme annoyance. Dragons rule, dogs drool.

message 22: by Danna (new)

Danna And Harry Potter, really annoying and the same every book! I mean, he comes to school, he meets friends, he plays, he win, some task, Voldemort, not Voldemort, done.

message 23: by Erin (new)

Erin I thing its funny how many of these books e.g Twilight and Harry Potter are some of the most famous books ever and that they are at the top of list like the best book ever!!!!

message 24: by Ara Monica (new)

Ara Monica Some books must be in the list like the Twilight series. But with some I am doubtful they must be in there, like Frankenstein, Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird to name some.

message 25: by Bri (last edited Mar 17, 2012 12:10AM) (new)

Bri Well, to be fair, I've heard that Catcher in the Rye is very hard to like. Apparently the main character is an annoying, angsting, uppity brat. I've seen people say that they want to jump inside the book and pummel him. THAT'S probably why they voted it.

And all those other classics on the list? Here's the thing about most classic books - they may be great stories, but quite often they are horribly, staggeringly, mind-numbingly boring. I read The Great Gatsby last semester for school, and it felt long at little more than 250 or so pages.

It's only natural that a few people would vote for Harry Potter. You can't expect everyone to like something.

Yes, I have heard the same thing. Rumor has it the Catcher in the Rye worth no time!

message 27: by Hera (new)

Hera NOW WHO PUT HARRY POTTER AND HUNGER GAMES ON HERE?? HUH?? WHO??

People, people, people; get real.

You just put some of the greatest series on a list of books that annoy you.

Ashamed to be a human here.

message 28: by Danna (new)

Danna Oh, Gasp don't take it so harshly, it's alright (: Some people don't do not like the book - but all the fuss about it, or the movie/s! You see, not the books themselves?

Ah that makes me feel a bit better i suppose. I guess i get annoyed by the hype sometimes too. Thank you for your enlightenment :)

For crying out loud, maybe they don't like those stories! That's all - people are supposed to like everything you do?

message 32: by Lea (new)

Lea Ara wrote: "Some books must be in the list like the Twilight series. But with some I am doubtful they must be in there, like Frankenstein, Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird to name some."

They're popular and they annoyed somebody, that is the only criteria.

message 33: by Lea (new)

Lea Ikra wrote: "yeah, the top five is really annoying!

Why do we have to be serious? Guess what - some people may actually not like those books and be annoyed by them. Why is that concept so difficult?

message 34: by Jodi (new)

Jodi Twilight is so awful because it's so bloody awfully written. The story isn't just aimed at teens the quality of the writing is what I would expect from a teen. Stephanie just published the right book at the right time and the kids just lapped it up. Look at the Harry Potter books, they're written for a younger audience but they are captivating and well written. I nearly always read the book then see the movie but with Twilight I refused to read beyond the first book and the movies are slightly better but I still gag.

I can't believe the time traveller's wife is on this list, it was such a beautiful story. Absolutely heartbreaking but perhaps that is why it annoys some?

Jodi, I didn't even get through first 20 pages of each Twilight book. I've got all 7 Harry Potter books and they're great.

message 36: by Amalie (new)

Amalie The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the most annoying book ever!

Maurizio (matemati) Actually, I like the Harry Potter series: what annoys me is the endless talking about it

message 38: by Silver (new)

Silver What is with all the classics? Now that is annoying. Everyone may not like them, but seriously you really think they deserve to be on the same list as Twilight?

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Silver wrote: "What is with all the classics? Now that is annoying. Everyone may not like them, but seriously you really think they deserve to be on the same list as Twilight?"

I completely agree! It's a shame when an interesting list gets spoiled. Classics shouldn't be here. "The Great Gatsby" "Atlas Shrugged" "Moby-Dick" ?? I'd understand why some might say "annoying" to "Lolita" most of the pay attention to story I think and don't get Nabokov's intention.

Emma Deplores Goodreads Censorship A lot of classics are popular, and are annoying to many readers. So they should be on here. I sure found The Great Gatsby annoying (read: boring as hell) when I read it back in high school, and I can't say I want to give it another shot. Rich people problems, bleh! Moby Dick has the reputation for being massively boring, full of encyclopedic detail about whales--even many English majors dread it. As for Atlas Shrugged, it's a massive libertarian manifesto with an 80-page speech as the climax--obviously annoying to many people.

I'd dispute the "popularity" of some of these books though. All Ann Coulter's writings are undoubtedly annoying, but most seem to have only a little over 1,000 ratings, many of them from people who disliked the books. So I'm not sure I'd call them "popular."

message 41: by Grack21 (new)

Grack21 Coulter's books sell like hotcakes though.

Emma Deplores Goodreads Censorship They must sell better than GR ratings would indicate--I suppose the kinds of people who like that stuff are unlikely to be on GR.

Maurizio (matemati) Emma wrote: "They must sell better than GR ratings would indicate--I suppose the kinds of people who like that stuff are unlikely to be on GR."

That's it!

I read the Twilight books when I was a middle schooler and loved them. But, when I was a freshman in high school (with a bit more literary experience under my belt) I tried to reread them. You see, the way in which the series is written is... lacking. I simply take issue with the far too many errors in the series. The level of writing is simply too low for my tastes now. I am not trying to be rebellious or anything, I simply think Ms. Meyer's writing skills need to be sharpened up. Still, it has gotten many-a-teen interested in reading, so that is good. Keep reading!

message 45: by Ed (new)

Ed [Redacted] I hated Gatsby when I had to read for school. I just read it again this year and noticed all the subtlety I missed as a youthful knucklehead. I now think its a damned good book.

message 46: by Marianinna (new)

Marianinna I hate harry potter and twilight but The catcher in the rye is my all time fav

message 47: by S (new)

S Twilight seems to be mentioned more than 2 times.

message 48: by Sabrina Conza (last edited Jul 14, 2013 12:23AM) (new)

Sabrina Conza Why are Vampire Academy, Harry Potter, The Great Gatsby and any Nicholas Sparks book on here! What is actually happening? Is this a joke?

message 49: by Grack21 (new)

Grack21 I'd assumed it was because Sparks is a talentless ass who thinks he's better than Shakespeare.

message 50: by Selcouth_ (new)

Selcouth_ I don't agree with all of these. Most of these I do though.

I really like the ''Uglies" series. Except the last one. (I could not even finish it.)

I have to admit, "Pretty Little Liars'' is my guilty pleasure.

One of those books I read simply, for fun.
