I'm curious about the difference between modern pulp and epic scale fantasy. I haven't read Son of the Black Sword, but "doesn't feel anything like pulp"? Is it not fun? Does it not have action or adventure? Do you mean something else?
I personally think high fantasy is super pulpy. Especially the way Larry presents it. I wouldn't put a Brad Torgeresen story on the list, as he's got the more literary flavor, but Correia fits.

I don't think long epic multivolume fantasy stories really feel like pulp. I can't define it but it just doesn't feel pulpy. If this book is pulp than every is pulp.

So might as well add all of Salvatores Drizzit novels and every single Pathfinder DnD novel?
Great question there. I mean, those Drizzt novels are very easy to digest, quick fantasy stories, they were pumped out fast, and didn't seem to worry about much other than fun. Are they not very by definition pulpy? Pulp doesn't mean indie or hipster necessarily. In fact the pulpy stuff was what sold most back in the day. I'd kinda say those are very much so as I think about it.
