L.E. Modesitt Jr prefers that his Recluce series be read in published order since he develops the world & themes in that manner. I heartily agree for a first read, but subsequent reads in chronological order are also fantastic.

Karen What fun!
Thank you for this new path through Modesitte's Recluse series.

At first my brain resisted but soon I found it was like reading a new series. Cheers.

You're welcome. In my review of the first book, Lee gave me the chronology for where each short story fit, too. You can find it here:

Steve Thank you for this chronological reading order for the Saga of Recluce. When do the stories in Recluce Tales take place?

Read comment #2. It has a link to my review with all the short stories in the order.

Steve When does Fairhaven rising take place?

Thank you. I hadn't realized it was out & just ordered it.

It's supposed to take place 16 years after The Mage-Fire War, but I don't know a date for sure. I'm guessing 704 for the year. I've updated the chronology in my review which contains all the short stories, too. You can find it here:

Brandon This list is not the same as https://www.goodreads.com/series/2161...

which is right? Is there one that has the years between?

Msg 2 has the link to my review which has the correct chronological order including the short stories & dates. Modesitt vetted that himself. Here's the link again.

Brandon Thank you! I've read all of them through last year, and want now to read them in chronological order.

You're welcome. It is a neat way to experience them again & makes more sense of some things. He's done a great job keeping the details straight in such a long, complex series.
