This list is for those books that you really wanted to read but after reading about half of it you were either too depressed, too bored or too overwhelmed. You put the book down and it is now collecting dust.

OMG! I'm so glad someone else felt this way about some of the books. I've been quietly ignoring the books I voted on in the list. I actually finished Outlander. Never been so tired, exhausted, emotionally drained by a novel...unless it was being underwhelmed by John Upton Witches of Eastwick.

I had to make this list as I just couldn't stand some of these books and others were just not my type.
And I feel stupid now! I came back to read your comment and saw what I posted. John Upton????? What was I drinking! I meant John Updike's Witches of Eastwick.
I hate putting a book down. I really do. Sometimes I just can't get through it. This list makes me feel a bit better about abandoning a novel. Funnily, I agree with so many of your choices. Phew! Back to the couch for another good read.
14 of my favorite books are on this list... nothing lower than a four star... makes me think I should read the rest... lol

HAHAHA I READ it as John Updike. How observant am I??

I had just purchased a nice new copy of Dragonfly in Amber and I got rid of it fast as I did not read to read another horrifying word!
Despite still having urges to rip my hair from my scalp every time I see or hear this title, I am absolutely *thrilled* that The Pillars of the Earth is on this list! It was the first book I've ever thrown across a room, and the reason I was finally convinced to never again tolerate a book I could barely tolerate. Thank you!

I sure agree with you!! (very glad about that)
I've only put a few books completely down. Some I've skimmed through to the end just to see what happened.
I noticed that several friends gave these books 5 stars!! If I quit reading a book I never give it 5 stars. I only give that to books that I read and enjoyed immensely. Books that I quit on get one star or maybe two but its rare for them to get two stars. Baffled by this! Why would you give a book that you quit reading 5 stars??????

If I rate a book two stars, I need at least to have finished it. It can be a very meager two stars though, for instance if I skimmed through parts of it :-)
Finished books can be rated one star by me as well, by the way, if I really don't like its contents.

I rate them like you do! I managed to finish The End of Eddy so it got 2 stars but was awful!
