They chose three books that aren't out yet. In the old days the longlist was not published, and so it didn't matter because by the time the shortlist was revealed in September all of the books scheduled for August/September had been published, or were just about to be. (The autumn being the preferred time for publishing new books.) Quite often, a novel by a well-known author would be published in the same week as the shortlist was going to be announced and if they got lucky it was perfectly timed publicity.

I noticed another book which, as far I know, hasn't been released yet: The Testaments (#10) by Margaret Atwood.
