Sorry Bettie :)I want to know about The Time Traveler's Wife. I haven't got around to reading that one yet.
What did you hate about Abundance, just for curiosity's sake? I enjoyed it--once I got past the first "see Ma, I'm writing literary fiction" chapter.I tried to vote, but can't figure out what I'm voting for. Am I voting to say that I also disliked the book, or that I liked it?
Lee wrote: "Where can you see who the creator of the list is?"You can't see for sure but I think this is Misfit's brainchil' as she was the first one of us listed.

Hello there - I didn't mind TTTW, not really a 'me' book but not a wall-banger per se.

It's me, its a take off on a listmania I did on Amazon. I find it very therputic :)

It looks like Barb is the one who voted that one on the list, I've never read it. Listopia on goodreads is kinda fun because other readers can vote books on and/or add their votes to previous additions.
A vote in this case would be a vote for a wall banger. Not sure if you can remove it, but try if you like.
My, this is a busy list being as it's only a few hours old :)
I'm curious about Abundance too. I loved Ahab's Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund. It's one of my favourite books.
Lee wrote: "Who added Serena and why? I've been reading rave reviews about that one. "That was me, I'd seen all the rave reviews as well. I just could not get into it, there were too many secondary characters that it had my head spinning, and while I expected Serena to be bad and nasty it just wasn't bad and nasty in a fun way. I think it's just me, but glad it was a library book.
I've been looking at Ahab's Wife for the longest time. One of these days...
Laura, good additions I forgot about Nectar from a Stone - although I do admit to having a bad book day when I started it, it wasn't the only book to hit the wall that day :)Funny about The Fools Tale, I loved it about three years ago when I was just starting to get into medievals but I'm not so sure I'd feel the same today.
I added My Sister's Keeper, too. Most of Picolt's stuff IMHO is pure crap, except for Nineteen Minutes.
have you all noticed how many how these wall-bangers are mother/daughter/sister/brother type things?
Why are Jodi Piccoult's books so popular? I have never read one and they don't appeal to me at all. Every time I read a synopsis of one of her books I just don't get what all the hype is about.
I am so unreasonable - just her name necessitates me to want to slap sommit!hahahah
I've sneaked out for a slice of toast - Wick-ed! Dear M is zeding like a trooper and Ross Poldark is urging me back but sometimes one has to be a little unconventional.
Tum te dum te doo dah day

hmm - title grabs me - let's have a looksee...
Captain Ahab Had a Wife: New England Women and the Whalefishery, 1720-1870 (Hardcover)by Lisa Norling
um, no! Not planning to venture along that particular career route
I've just ordered that Pillars of the Earth - come out with your dukes up and tell me why this is not a good book.
I have Serena home from the library but haven't cracked it open yet. I'll let you know how it goes.I'm deeply involved with Octavian Nothing, those I CAN heartily recommend.
Yes it is! Ronny Rash is the one. Octavian is different but excellent, I'm on volume two. American Revolutionary War from a slave's perspective.
Bettie wrote: "I've just ordered that Pillars of the Earth - come out with your dukes up and tell me why this is not a good book."My goodness you two have been busy here today :)
Pillars, I guess it's what you're looking for in a book. For many it's a page turning action adventure, but if you're looking for an accurate representative of the medieval period look elsewhere. I also found the graphic sex and violence to be way over the top.
I'd like to see what you two think of Serena, that one just didn't grab me. I don't mind a real unlikeable character but I'd sure like to know what made her that way.
So the nastiness of the protagonist ruined the book for you eh Misfit? I had the same problem with the woman in House of Sand and Fog. I had to give it two stars because I hated her even though the writing was good.
Hi Lee, I don't mind a nasty protagonist if I know what rocks her boat. In this case, I didn't know, nor was did the rest of the secondary characters interest me enough to stick with it, until when or if I found out what (if ever) I found out what made Serena the way she was.Who knows? I was on my third or fourth week stuck at home with a busted knee and perhaps this wasn't the right book for me at the right time. Who knows, but when I look at the critical reviews at Amazon they are very much in line with my impressions of the book (as far as I got).
Who can't finish The Golden Compass? It's not a hard read, it's exciting, and there isn't even anything that early on to offend the holy rollers. Somebody's retarded.

I liked all I read OK except 19 Minutes! I sure get tired of them going to court in every single book tho.

I voted for "The Summer Garden" by Paullina Simons - not because I couldn't finish it (I've read it a few times, being the final book in the Bronze Horseman Trilogy which is my favourite story of all time) but because of what happened in it. When you invest about 2000 pages of reading time into a story and you grow to love the characters, for one of them to do something so dispicable is VERY frustrating. I literally threw it against the wall screaming obscenities at the main character. Those who've read it will know what I'm referring to... It left me heartbroken.
i had the same problem with the host at first but then i went back to try again and it was amazing, you just really have to push through the first 30 pages or so but after that, trust me, its worth itthe time traveler's wife is also another great book that starts off confusingly but is worth it
as for the hobbit i just tried to read that and its not even that i didnt like it i just couldnt read it, i only got to like page 80, i dont really know why... i think ill try again sometimes soon
Lariela wrote: "The Hobbit does not belong on that list, neither does Little Women."This list, like many others at GR, is for readers to express their personal opinion about a book. What is a wallbanger to one reader isn't always a wallbanger to the next reader.

One could lose librarian privileges for removing books like that from lists.
Lol, all kind of books have been added on this list, so I can't help but think that it is no longer a genuine "bad books" list

:O)))))
