Listopia > Henrietta's Library
"Isn't that enough?" gasped the Old Gentleman.
"Yes, I think that's all," said Henrietta, cunting them.
"You seem to know exactly what is required," he said with much respect.
"Yes," said Henrietta. "My father and I have talked it over. We decided that if a person of my age had a library of twenty books those are the twenty the person would want."
— Henrietta's House by Elizabeth Goudge
This list of twenty books is not exactly the one chosen by Henrietta — depending on the edition of the book (either Henrietta's House or The Blue Hills) the second to last book is Treasure Island or The Wind in the Willows. The last book is called "The Cocky-Olly Bird" and it's difficult to find out more about it. It seems to be a book called "Droll Doings" by Harry B Neilson with verses by The Cockyolly Bird, according to Christine Rawlins' biography of Goudge, Beyond the Snow.
Please, do not add books to this list — unless you can help with the cockyolly problem!
