Listopia > Football & Mental Health
Football is very much regarded as the beautiful game because of the excitement, and thrills that grip it at all levels, from Grassroots to Professional. The game also sees the players become some sort of hero are they are idolized by fans.Unfortunately, there have been some names in the history of the game, who despite giving their best on the football pitch, could no longer bear the atrocities of life, which led them to taking their own lives. In this book, we will talk about such footballers who died by suicide either during their careers or post retirement from the game. The situation in this country needs to catch up fast. Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged 18 - 35. Players past and present can now access a national network of 90 fully trained counsellors, all of whom understand the emotional roller-coaster that involvement in professional sport can entail.Although the support has come too late, at least now the football industry can work towards preventing future football suicides.
