I wanted to elevate children's books that aren't typically highlighted in the children's literature canon. The intention of this list is not to tell anyone they cannot read Harry Potter, but instead to showcase and elevate fantasy novels aimed at children that still embody the values of kindness and adventure (preferably without the racist undertones).
Please also refrain from voting in texts like Narnia and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (again, not saying you shouldn't read them. I'm simply highlighting them as they are largely canonical texts that have racial undertones. The goal of this list is to elevate books that are not that, to demonstrate to both parents and kids that there are other options in addition to those in the canon).
