Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Had to vote for the collected Peter Wimsey stories because at least one of them qualifies. Naturally, I can't remember the title!

One of the Hardy novels - set in Bath and they go down to the same steps in Lyme Regis where French Lieutenant's Woman was filmed - lots of card playing in there

Ring any bells?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Can't remember! Been years since I read Hardy, though.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Don't they play charades in a big scene in Jane Eyre?

They do the "Tableaux", I think. I don't remember parlor games in Wimsey... I guess it's time for a re-read!

There's a short story, where at Christmas they play ... charades, or Black Crambo? ... and an expensive pearl necklace goes missing. Peter is one of the guests, and goes investigating.

I don't think I've read that one... Horrors!!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads I *think* it is "The Necklace of Pearls."

ETA: Which doesn't seem to be published as a singleton, so the collection is probably best.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) You ladies are stars, all of you!! There I go dropping a puny li'l four-book list on your respective tables, and you bring up all the books I should have thought of when creating the list in the first place. Yes, yes, and yes on all of the above!! :)

Bettie

Downton Abbey does a grand game of charades near the end of series 2. Loved it!

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Ha -- I've yet to see that. Can hardly wait!
