A while ago I was inspired by Paul Stamets who spoke on Joe Rogan's podcast and gave an incredible account of what the intelligence of fungi could look like. He described the moss living in a gully as one interconnected organism, existing continuously for millennia, exerting subtle pressure on the surrounding environment in order to restore it to equilibrium. They way he described it, I was convinced that a consciousness like that was possible, and even that we could learn something worthwhile from its long perspective.
His explanation was so impassioned that I was inspired to ask the Facebook FT Books Cafe on Facebook for recommendations of what to read in order to understand how other intelligences might operate. I was impressed by how many suggestions I got from the Facebook hive mind (yet another kind of intelligence), though I very quickly realised that I probably won't ever have the time to read through them.
I figure the next best thing I can do is at least publish the list; maybe you can put it to better use! There are six main categories with one or more book suggested in each; sometimes there is just an author.
