I don't understand why people are voting on books that are stand-alone titles, not a part of a series. The title of the list is Strong Heroine SERIES.And I actually agree with the Twilight selection - our view of ourselves and how we describe ourselves can be quite different from who we actually are. Considering that the books are written mainly from Bella's point of view it can take a conscious effort to distance oneself from her opinions about the events and the roles of the participants.

I must be missing something because I do not see a pattern of spinelessness or cowardice. Here is what I do see (sorry this is long, but there are four books in the series): Twilight - Bella decides to move to Forks so her mother can have a life she wants with her husband; she goes to the ballet studio all alone to meet a vampire who can kill her with a flick of a finger because she thinks she can save her mother; she maintains that she wants to be with Edward even though he clearly doesn't think it's a good idea for her. New Moon - she faces Jacob when he begins avoiding her; when Alice tells her Edward is in trouble she does not hesitate, she is ready to go to Voltera on a moment's notice to protect him, even if it means risking her own life; she defies both Jacob and her father by staying with Edward. Eclipse - she maintains her friendship with Jacob despite Edward being against it; she continues her relationship with Edward even though her father and Jake would clearly rather she didn't; she wants to go to the face-off with the newborns and doesn't only because Edward won't have it; she risks herself during the Edward vs. Victoria fight. Breaking Dawn - she joins forces with Rosalie of all people to protect the child she wants to keep; she goes alone to establish an escape route for her daughter and Jacob and protect the secret from the Volturi. Sure, she is afraid, but fear is a normal human reaction when one's life and lives of those they love are in danger.
Please tell me where is it that she has no backbone and when is she hiding behind Edward without being told to do so because I'm curious to see it.
Why is Twilight on the list? Bella is not a "strong heroine." She is the damsel-in-distress that is always being saved by her boyfriend and best friend.
I died a litle inside when I saw Twilight up there. Bella is the epitome of all damsel-in-distress females. There are Disney Princesses with more backbone than her.

I thought this was going to have series on it, not individual books, so I only chose the first of the series I think apply!
Who the Heck put Twilight??????????????????? Someone has gone mental Bella strong?? Dont make me laugh.

However, she may be passionate or strong in her convictions or love for Edward, but I dont think that necessarily makes her a strong female character. The fact that she is willing to give up her life as a human (even though it is what she wants) and the fact that she agress to marry him, shows she's not the strongest female character. It is also in my opinion slight brainwash. Also, just because someone is reckless, does not mean they're a hero. Most of the time she jumps into danger, but then has to be rescued.
I find it's interesting no one's piped up about The Hunger Games. From what I've heard other people say, a lot of people dont like Katniss and a lot of people dont think she's a strong heroine, they think she's selfish. What do y'all think?
Oh and Alanna or The Song of the Lioness Quartet should be number 1. I dont think I've ever read a series with a more bad-ass female lead. She is a true heroine.
How does Twilight have a strong female lead? In that case, I nominate every Harlequin romance ever published. I had no idea the definition of "strong" was so loose.
Katniss Everdeen, ftw! and I think that even if Bella is on this list, she should be at the very bottom.
Swear to god. I am going to slap the next person who tries to tell me that that snivelling, whining, pathetic little brat Bella Swan is a strong female character. Her character, by Stephanie Meyer's DEFINITION is not strong! Stop it! Stop it, stop it, stop it!...and yes, that was a tantrum.
Hmmm, does the girl from Uglies deserve to be on this? she's kind of a coward and does a lot of stupid things, as much as I absolutely adore that series
call me crazy but I'm finding it pretty hard to believe that FRIGGIN BELLA!!! was a friggin strong heroine anyways so here's my list 1.katniss(hunger games),clary(mortal instruments)
2.katsa(graceling)
(oh and Ellie from angelfire)she wasn't that bad
PERSONAL DEMONS!!!! SERIOUSLY???? whoever added this book has totally lost their mind HA!

*high five*
One of my personal favourite strong female characters is Suzy Turquoise Blue from The Keys to the Kingdom series and I adore Lirael and Sabriel from the Old Kingdom books. Garth Nix writes great female characters.
I really just don't know what the world has come to if they think that Isabella Swan is a strong Heroine in any way all of her, apparent, strong decisions can be boiled down to stupidity. She is the worst female character that I have come across, so far.Lucinda Price? Are you kidding? Isabella Swan incarnate.
I have to say, some people must not know the definition of A Strong Heroine if these two nitwits are in there.
Kaitlyn wrote: "Clary? Really? She is worth than Bella Swan!"Clary, though an idiot at times, has more backbone than Bella.
H.n. wrote: "Twilight? Twilight ?! With a main character like Bella, Twilight should be at the very bottom of this list..."I agree. I love Twilight, but I would never put it in a list like this. Belle is... well, not exactly my definition of "Strong".
This list needs to be cleaned up some. I see a number of stand along books on here. Also, I think it would be better if only the first book or omnibus was put on the list. If this list is to point people to series with strong female leads, I'm not sure having book 7 on the list is helpful.
Where is Duce (from Enclave)? Wanna talk strong female? I think she's the strongest I've seen yet. She could kick Katniss Everdeen's ass. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Katniss, but Duce is the shit! And I'm not even gonna touch the fact that Twilight is on this list...
Olga wrote: "I must be missing something because I do not see a pattern of spinelessness or cowardice. Here is what I do see (sorry this is long, but there are four books in the series): Twilight - Bella decide..."WELL SAID! I Totally Agree, could not say it better myself. Good Job!!
H.n. wrote: "Twilight? Twilight ?! With a main character like Bella, Twilight should be at the very bottom of this list..."I would agree, except that Bella KICKS ASS in the last book in the series:
Breaking Dawn
