NANA Vol. 1 is:

1) Not a "Ya book"
2) Manga, so technically not a book (despite me being a fan of manga, I cannot call it a "book)
3) Intended for older, more mature readers because it's way more realistic and tragic than anything a 15 year old could be dealing with.

It's YA. Josei manga is intended, at least to my understanding, to be the equivalent of YA novels. It's serialised in a shojo magazine, intended for younger readers. I'm not sure why you think drug abuse and death are beyond the capabilities of a fifteen-year-old to understand or deal with. They're not pretty, sure, but they're not treated as such.

It's a book. It's on this website, isn't it?
