List any book that is good for teenagers to read! It doesn't necessarily have to be a YA book, just any books you think teens would most enjoy reading.

Dragondrums is not a teen book. Nor is The Hobbit, Lord's Foul Bane and Ender's Game. Who can remove these books from the list since they do not belong.

My sixth grade boys love Ender's Game. I have atleast three or four that read it every year.
Wow! When I made this list, I had no idea that so many people would vote on it!!! *Sniffle* Thank you guys! :D

Yes. My brother reads those too (Well, not the Hobbit, but the others.)
When I was a teen, I did read books that were not written for teens nor teen books. Because I read these books as a teen would not make them suitable for a list of books for teens. I loved reading as a kid and that's continued throughout my life. Is this list books that are for teens or that teens have enjoyed?
JSWolf wrote: "When I was a teen, I did read books that were not written for teens nor teen books. Because I read these books as a teen would not make them suitable for a list of books for teens. So if this list is supposed to be books written for teens, why are they on this list?

I do think this list needs going over and the non-teen books should be removed and replaced and a new vote taken.

Err, I'll work on that.......But, can you give me a few of the "non-teen" books you had in mind?
Ender's Game by Orson Scott CardThe Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Lord Foul's Bane by Stephen R. Donaldson
Dragondrums by Anne McCaffrey
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
It's actually a rather small list when you look at it.

K, I'll see what I can do.
This list makes me sad. If this is what teens are reading...I also don't see how any of the books listed by JSWolf aren't teen books, but whatever.
Actually, a lot of teens read Enders Game, as well as The Chronicles of Narnia. I haven't read the other ones JSwolf mentioned, so I can't comment on them. It seems like removing them would be a lot like censorship to me... But that's just my opinion.

Wow this list is great! Everyone should read Hunger Games! And it's sequel, Catching Fire! THe next book doesn't come out til September! What am I going to do?
Harry Potter and Ella Enchanted <33 Timeless and magical....Love LOTRs too but i'm not sure if it's considered teen?
JSWolf wrote: "Dragondrums is not a teen book. Nor is The Hobbit, Lord's Foul Bane and Ender's Game. Who can remove these books from the list since they do not belong."
The Hobbit is a young person's book. I also read Lord Foul's Bane, Dragondrums and Narnia (Loved them) when I was a teenager. They are just as much YA as Harry Potter or some others I could name. I cannot talk for Enders Game (Haven't read it).
YA is a garbage term. You are either an adult or you are not. There is no such thing as a young adult. If you are not a child and you are not an adult, you are a teen.So are YA books for adults or teens since the term YA is meaningless?
JSWolf wrote: "Since this is a teen list, I think all the votes by anyone not a teen should be removed."
And if this list was designed for teens, why are you reading it?
Know what else is meaningless? Trying to dictate which books should be allowed on user generated lists. Looks to me like the description says that any book a teen might enjoy is allowed on this list, not just books written for a teen audience.
Becky wrote: "Know what else is meaningless? Trying to dictate which books should be allowed on user generated lists."Well, we do delete things that really don't belong on a list. But I don't see any books needing deleting from this one.
I know... I've deleted books from Listopia lists if they are legitimately inappropriate. This is a list asking for books that teens would enjoy, so arguing that some books aren't teen books is pointless, as that's not what the list is for. *shrug*
This conversation seems to be getting out of hand. Anyone with any sense should be allowed to recommend books for teens to read and vote in the poll. We were all teens once and I would say that most here were readers as teens. As for books being teen or not, that's entirely up to the reader. I was reading, understanding and enjoying things considered above the YA level in 5th and 6th grade and I'm sure that I'm not alone. From what I saw, most of the list looked suitable for teens although not all is to my taste which is as it should be.
Becky wrote: "This is a list asking for books that teens would enjoy, so arguing that some books aren't teen books is pointless, as that's not what the list is for."Agreed.
I have been reading the comments and I think all these would qualify as teen booksBUT
It all depends what you consider as teens remember teens covers a wide range 13 To 19. So yes YA does fit in at the top end of teen
But what you would give to a 19 year old you would not necessarily give to a13 year old to read
So you need to use some judgement
As a librarian I consider the child - then make recommendations. Parents need to be aware of what's available and what's suitable
I would not give hunger games to some 13 year olds. But it is fine for for others.
In my library we have the hobbit and the lord of the rings for 11 year old up
Hobbit is suitable for good 11 12year old readers
you will find if they are not ready or capable of reading it they won't
Good list
Re: Books by Robert Stanek:Don't believe the hype. This book has not been recommended as claimed in the blurb. It is not a best seller. It has not won awards. It is amateur garbage that has been slickly marketed. It also is not appropriate for children.
In addition the narrator on the version sold through Audible is horrendous.
Do your due diligence before purchasing this one.

My advice: Don't waste any money or any time on this one. There is no one who would honestly and truthfully believe this trash is a great story.
There are however critiques of it on the web that are pretty entertaining. Find one of those instead if you really want to know what this book is all about.
I recommend this one: http://conjugalfelicity.com/keeper-ma...

Dragondrums is Young Adult, which typically means teen. I certainly consider it a teen book. The Hobbit also I believe fits here, as it was written for a younger audience, but too advanced for the average child reader. Certainly teens enjoy it and can enjoy it. I agree with you on Lord's Foul Bane (I'd also say it's not "a best of all time" since I hated it), haven't read Ender's Game so can't opine on that one.
Books by Robert Stanek are garbage, which no one would consider "best" in any way. Most likely added here by sock puppets, for which the author is notorious.
As far as the Chronicles of Narnia, certainly they are children's books. However I think it's valid to keep in mind "teen" means thirteen to nineteen. That's a very broad range. I think these books do reasonably fit in the younger end of the "teen" spectrum.
Unfortunately only GR staff and those who voted for a book can remove books added to a list.
