This is my favorite genre, so I'd like to compile this list for myself and others like me!

Contemporary or historical literary fiction with queer main characters.

Criteria:
1) The main character(s) must be explicitly queer (either by saying it outright, or seriously expressing romantic or sexual interest in someone of the same sex, etc.). No queer baiting, coding, reading or "word of god" queerness that doesn't appear plainly in the text.
2) No YA. New Adult is allowed, but the characters must be out of college.
3) No genre books (such as romance, fantasy, or science fiction). Romantic side plots are allowed, but they must firmly be on the side.
4) Safe-for-work book covers only.
