How does Life of Pi qualify as a memoir? I could have sworn it was fiction and that Yann Martel was a man...

you're right! But -- I think it's better that there isn't a "book nazi"
on Goodreads
I wouldn't call myself a "book nazi" and if you've ever read anything about World War 2, I really don't think nazi is an appropriate thing to call anyone except a murderous dictator and his minions, I just happen to think that when a list is called "memoirs by women" that's what it should be, or else why have a special list for them? why not call it "Anything List (with some memoirs by women)"?

But on your other point, I couldn't agree with you more; what is the point of these lists if even the most basic ground rules can't be adhered to and (if necessary) enforced? Sometimes things can be subjective, and then it is certainly best to leave well-enough alone. But what constitutes a "memoir" and what constitutes a "woman" are pretty objective. Novels by men are Right Out.

Actually, there are also several books on here that are biographies about women, but not AUTObiographies or memoirs as this list states.

Anybody can add books -- just click on the tab "add books to this list" up top, next to "all votes," perform a search either from among your own bookshelves or the Goodreads database, and then vote for the books you would like to add.

Jessica, I think it's time for the list's creator to pitch in ... would you like to see the list pruned back so as to exclude fictional memoirs, biographies that aren't actually AUTObiographies and books written by (or about!) men -- or do you think the list is so far gone at this point that all of these books might just as well remain?

I agree. Deleted.

The Book of Margery Kempe is listed twice on this list: the Penguin Classics edition and the Norton Critical edition.

Because you are the author? This is why authors are no longer allowed to add or vote for their own books on Listopia.
"Listopia is not intended to be a promotional tool. We’ve also found that, no matter how good the author’s intention, readers see authors adding their own books or voting for them as self-promotional, an attempt to game Listopia, or even spam."
