I have my differences with this book. "The Anubis Gate"? I always felt that should have never been on this list along with a handful of others. "Johnny Got His Gun" is a stretch, the horror of war is dealt with but I feel they pushed the boundaries a bit with this title. A book such as "Jaws" would have been a better fit for either The Anubis Gate or Johnny Got His Gun. Why in the world wasn't "Something Wicked This Way Comes" listed in this book, or "Hell House"?They added Another 100 Best Horror Books to this collection. I never purchased the book because I felt the first book was lukewarm at best.
I know that the authors picked their favorite titles, but that's no excuse for some of the selections on this list. The essays are good enough, but ...
I could have put together a more comprehensive list than what was offered in this first installment.
I'm a book collector and purchased this book as a reference book, perhaps this is why I felt let down by the selections. don't get me wrong; not all the selections are bad, perhaps none are truly bad, just some didn't fit my criteria of what horror should be.

All the above titles make me scratch my head. they are not exactly typical horror novels.
Really great list. I would have added Yeitso by Scott Baker.I read that over the Halloween period and just loved it. It pays homage to vintage monster movies and big bug horror but is never tacky or predictable. Amazing book from a great author. http://scottmbakerauthor.blogspot.com/
I have only read 13 of these. Interesting list for sure. There are a surprising amount of titles that I had not heard of, considered horror and/or have no interest in reading.
OMG I feel utter shame that I am only able to check off 6 titles on the list. On the upside, I now have a whole slew of suggestions for my next book buying spree!
Wow! I've only read 15 of these. That's one thing that surprises me. The other is that there are books on this list that I have never even heard of before. I consider myself well-read in the horror genre, but it looks like I've got some work to do. I hate being obligated to read anything, but I would like to add a few of these to my 'read' list by the end of the year. The Haunting of Hill House and Falling Angel have been high on my list of books to read for a long time. It's time to get to those.
Somebody added 5 books by the author Stella Purple which definitely do not belong on this list . They should be removed .
Michael wrote: "Somebody added 5 books by the author Stella Purple which definitely do not belong on this list . They should be removed ."Well, that's very strange. This has been flagged as a static list for five years; it shouldn't be possible to add new books, and there's no sign in the changelog of how or when the changes were made. Weird.
Fixing it in a moment.
