The description says "...that I read while studying in Madrid". What's the idea behind this list? Can we add books, or is it limited to the books you read 'while studying in Madrid'? Because there are many more great reads from Spain than the few you mentioned here...

Chris HI!
I'd love to hear some of your recommendations! I have the feeling that even well-read Americans know little more than Don Quijote and Lorca when it comes to Spanish literature so I just wanted to make some recommendations based on readings from my study-abroad year.
Please drop me a note with recommendations and I'll consider them for the list. Who knows? Maybe they will be books I read and enjoyed but forgot to add!
Chris

I'm currently reading the unabridged Dutch edition of Don Quixote but I have a couple more Spanish books on my list that came recommended: Try the authors Antonio Muñoz Molina, Benito Pérez Galdós and Enrique de Hériz, for instance.
Camilo José Cela and Federico García Lorca are already on your list, I noticed.

The Ring Of The Dove: A Treatise On The Art And Practice Of Arab Love (1022) by Ibn Hazm is high on my 'to read' list, as I recently managed to get hold of a Dutch translation.

I'm told Susana Fortes' book Tiernos y traidores (translated in Dutch as Teder verraad) should be worth reading, but I'm not altogether sure about that, to be honest. But that's all a matter of personal taste, I suppose :-). Also, Ildefonso Falcones' book The Hand of Fatima should be worth a read as well, or so I'm told anyway.

Hope this helps.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) I stumbled across some more Spanish authors but I haven't read any of their work. All of these authors have been translated into Dutch (which means they are probably also available in English) and have been published by the Dutch publishing company 'Menken Kasander & Wigman Uitgevers' in their 'Spanish Library' series.

Chris Thanks! I'll check them out. There are a lot of Spanish writers but only a handful that I really like. I would like to read some Javier Marías and was recently recommended Juan Francisco Ferré. Thanks again!

I was recently given Onder vrouwen (Donde las mujeres) by Álvaro Pombo, so that's on my 'to read' list now as well :-)

Chris Great! Thanks for the recommendations. I'll look that one up now.
