Kite Runner can't possibly be on the list, as it was published after the list was made.

Yes, I removed it. Also (with equal regret) "A Tale of Two Cities," "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," Christie's "And Then There Were None," and Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sense and Sensibility," as well as "Peace Like a River," "The Chronicles of Narnia," "Walk Two Moons," "Where Are the Children," "My Name Is Asher Lev," "The Search for Wallace Whipple," "Murphy's Law," "The Chronicles of Prydain," "Inkheart," "The Gabriel Hounds," and "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency."To those who added these books: Please note that this is NOT a RANDOM list for great novels, but it is only supposed to contain novels listed on either the Modern Library Editors' or their Readers' list, as published at http://www.randomhouse.com/modernlibr... .
There are plenty of other lists for great novels (random as well as topical). If you want to add a book to THIS particular list, however, please first check on the above-mentioned website whether the book you have in mind matches the criteria. Thanks in advance!
Hardly. Good catch!ETA: Removed that book, as well as Memoirs of a Geisha, and amended the list description to include an express caveat to that effect.
On most of these lists where there's both a board's (or publisher's) list and a readers' list, it tends to be either ...
Sarah wrote: "There's only 86 on here?"That's presumably because people so far have only added the books they've read. If you see any books at the above link (http://www.modernlibrary.com/top-100/...) -- either on the 100-book Board's List or on the 100-book Readers' List -- that you've read and that aren't on the list, yet, do feel free to add them as well. (It's easy: Just click on the tab up top next to "all votes").
Removed, for not being on either of the Modern Library lists in question:Isn't It Pretty To Think So?
Hello all, I noticed that there were quite a few titles from the original Modern Reader's 100 Novels list that were not on here so I have added all of the remaining ones to the list as they are all books that I've either read or intend to read. It was a goal of mine for quite some time to obtain or read every book on this list. I finished collecting them several years ago. Surprisingly I had never searched out this list but am glad I found it. So, comb through it and if there are some that are also your favorites, give 'em a vote. I didn't tackle the readers list, that will be for another time. :)
This list badly needs books removing. The number one book on the list is To Kill a Mockingbird which does not appear on the Modern Library list.
Way are there 167 books on a 100 book list?
The God Father by Mario Puzo is not on either the Board's List NOR the Reader's List. In total there should be 168 books. The 2 lists shared 32 Titles.
Morgan wrote: "Way are there 167 books on a 100 book list?"There were actually 2 lists - one by a "Board" of academics and another by Readers. I tend to favor the Readers'100 myself. In total there are 168 books since 32 books are on both lists

In total there arte 168 books since the 2 lists share 32 books. To Kill a Mockingbird is #5 on the Reader's List
