Criteria:
- Must include a very gloomy/spooky/gothic atmosphere
- Must feature a house, residence, or building that is focal to the storyline and is deeply oppressive. This can include traditional locations in the genre such as manors or plantations, but can also included more non-traditional residences such as ships, residential schools, universities, etc.
- Must include themes of isolation.
- The oppressiveness of the residence must be an allegory for real-world oppression (e.g. feminist gothic, postcolonial gothic, etc.)
