Listopia > Obviously AI-generated
In this wonderful age we live in, countless A.I. generated books are self-published without disclosure by the author that they're entirely A.I. products. For most of these, it's painfully obvious, at least to anyone with the slightest familiarity with the products of A.I.
Whether or not the purveyor of these affronts to literature intend to deceive or simply don't realize how terrible these "books" are (because anyone capable of producing such things probably doesn't read actual books), they deserve to be tagged appropriately.
And no, having the "ideas" for a book doesn't count for anything when the words are all produced by ChatGPT.
The intention of this list is to identify books that show strong indications of generative AI use in their creation, from cover images to the writing itself. There are well-established frequent common denominators in AI books, including use of AI image generators and stereotypical text patterns; these are the basis for identifying a book as AI generated or "AI slop." This is to alert readers who do not want to unintentionally encounter AI is book spaces. If users are comfortable with generative AI use in the books they might choose, labelling books like this will not deter them.
Before adding a book to this list, please be sure you are familiar with the output of generative AI when it comes to book content. If you're not already well-versed, read some established AI books to learn the patterns, and see collections of AI-generated images (e.g. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...) to familiarize yourself with the look of such things. Any books voted here certainly must have been published after the public release of generative AI tools; the onslaught of AI slop books mostly started only late 2023, and ChatGPT's image generator, which dominates AI book illustration since its release, launched at the end of March 2024.
If an author objects to a book's inclusion on this list and genuinely did not use generative AI in any way, shape, or form, they can comment here and users may re-examine the book in question. Keep in mind: if it walks and talks and quacks like a duck .... "AI generated" in this case refers to any output that is typical of generative AI, no matter how much the publisher may believe they contributed to the work through complex AI prompting. And if your book reproduces stereotypical patterns at a frequency that is usually only seen in AI slop, you might want to think about that.

I need your help. I have discovered a person claiming to be author and artist of her books, but her pictures are clearly AI, and the writing is suspiciously AI-like. She has gone to the trouble of going on and on, on her blog about how being an illustrator is such hard work, so she's obviously lying about the pictures even if the writing is hers, which I doubt. She's even set up a website to look like a legitimate publisher's website. She has others on that website that are either sock puppets or complicit with her. I gave her books 1 stars trying to warn people away (she has several people fooled by the looks of some reviews) but she somehow got my reviews deleted. Can I tell you the name, or will I get in trouble with Goodreads? If I can't tell you the name, you can just go to the list of books I have submitted to this list and find them. The initials are 5th letter 20th letter, and the sock puppets/complicit people are 5th letter 2nd letter, and 5th letter 2nd letter.

There is a Goodreads group "AI Book Haters Club" you can ask to join. You can also just ignore them and live your best life knowing you, at least, don't require trying to fool people with AI output claimed as your own creative work for self-validation. They're not going to achieve "success" by most people's estimation.
