Later post on KDB when informed this is gaming the system:

Don,
Thank you for your input. I do see your point, however, after careful consideration, I am morally comfortable going ahead with this. We are not reviewing each others works, we're just adding them to an unofficial list maintained by GoodReads members. There are no rules in the GoodReads site which prohibit us from doing so. I doubt we'll get enough of a following to significantly change marketshare in any genre. But I appreciate the chance to examine the issue and your zeal for keeping the playing field level."

Let us know. Clearly the intent (and the inference) of this list is that it's books that readers feel are the BEST of British books. Meaning we should be able to assume everyone adding a book to this list and voting for books on the list, sincerely and honestly believe they are among the BEST of British books. Looking at this list, even allowing for differences in taste, does make me wonder....

What makes you think I screwed up? I'm good and thoroughly entertained. And none of this high-horse, vigilate, self-righteous posturing will effect my sales a single bit. I'm actually up a bit.

That's an unfortunate attitude. Guess it doesn't matter that the Listopia lists are skewed so they're unusable and meaningless for readers.

Pfft, readers schmeaders. It's all about their self-promotion and moving books, amiright? Besides, most of those other authors are dead. It's not like they need the money.
I can promise you that idie authors voting for their books and books of their fellow authors for "marketing" or "exposure" purposes when those lists are intended for, and presumed by readers to be, sincere and honest expressions of opinion regarding the quality of the books from other readers very much does give indie authors a bad name. There had been some progress for indie authors, but this kind of thing takes them a giant step back when it comes to readers wanting to take a chance with their dollars.

Of course it won't 'effect' her sales, but it might 'affect' her sales.

The way the quote looked, launching into the text of her comments without the added, "Author Maggie Spense says.." might be misleading if my post with the "Author Maggie Spense says.." gets deleted for some reason.
I don't want to claim ownership of her idiotic words.
That's all.
Haha! We're all confused. No bad for you, Linda. I got it.
Barbara ~ Got it! I don't blame you for not wanting to claim ownership of Spence's idiotic words. The mystery is why she'd say them in the first place.
Wow. I started this list just out of love for British books, and I was looking for the ones we loved very, very best: held up well over time, stood out among all the Brit. lit. we'd read, what we'd take to a desert island, or tell a friend, "you really, really have to read this." I was thrilled to see people starting to vote, and it seems most people were in the spirit of the thing. I was really, really sad when I saw the comments and realized that someone was trying to GET something out of the list and the participants. I'm sorry that happened, and grateful for the people who said, "NO!"

"Okay. We all know that Goodreads has a gazillion members but the forums are fragmented and hard to target. But those listopia lists are an interesting source of new customers. What if we all help each other out? You only need a few votes to move up on their lists and maybe we can get each other on the map. Here's my plan: Everyone list the name of their book in this thread and what Listopia List they would like to be featured on. I think you should only pick one for now to see how this works. The rest of us add the book to our To-Read lists on GoodReads. (If you aren't a member, you should be!) Then we go to the Listopia list and vote for it. So simple. And you really have to keep checking back to this thread and help out everyone who names their book and list. I'll start. I've already chosen my list, it's Smart Summer Reads and the name of my book is Vardin Village. It already has one vote so you just need to add yours! Then I'll do you!

LET'S DO THiS!"
