Rosie Question. Do mental disorders count? Like OCD and anxiety? Reason I ask is because I was going to add One Small Thing.

message 2: by Justin (new)

Justin South Hi Rosie,

Any disability that is permanent and significant counts, provided the disability is an important theme. Thus minor afflictions/ailments such as a skin rash, dental pain, swollen toe, broken leg etc, or characters who have been cured of and unaffected by a disease are ruled out.

Many mental problems, such as OCD, chronic anxiety and ADHD, can be remedied yet remain dormant/inactive or can be triggered by an action/event. Stories with main characters suffering these conditions count.

The intention is to list only books with main characters who have a significant permanent health issue affecting their living circumstances or a disablement affecting their ability to live 'normally'. Most ampuations, mutations, significant scars and chronic issues such as stuttering count.
