why does this List contain NON - genius protagonists? I read three from in here and only the plot and story for Dirk provin in the Jenniffer fallon suits the genius title especially in the third book. Second comes Kvothe of patric ruthfuss in "then name of the wind". Kvothe is PROCLAIMED to be a genius but he never displays it a lot in dealing with things as Dirk does by describing and doing complex and the author does nott just say -- Dirk learnt a whole language in an hour !!. He practically displays that in creating plots and subplots and answers and all. The third is the black magic guild trilogy. Sonea is NOT at all genius in this respect. She displays nothing of being a genius in any of the three novels. She just learns things fast and that is all there is to her genius. that is NOT satisfying at all

Varun... it's because this list is based on the OPINIONS of anyone who cares to vote. Your opinion is welcome, but not carved into stone. :)
Actually i agree with varun. Most of the books on the list doesn't contain GENIUS protagonist. Only dirk, kvothe, artemis, and ender qualified. Not only magician guild, even dune is not good enough to be put down on the list, and that's my opinion
Hey Lim not to say I dont love support but much more than that , tell me of books like dirk provin of the second sons trilogy. I love that series for dirk being the genius in the ways he does things. any similar books ?
I would say that nothing is quite like second son. Its special.Depends on how your personal preference runs in. If you like classical, you should try chinese three kingdom. Dozen of genius strategist, with one of them almost godlike genius. The strategies in there are still used nowadays in art of war.
If you like a simpler story, there is always artemis fowl.
Oh yeah, also hurog duology where the protagonist pretend as idiot for years.
Lim. thanks for the lovely suggestion and absolutely no need to support me :) coz that is how diversity can remain diverse. Okay so I am going to checkout chinese three kingdom. Is it a novel or a series ? is it fiction or nonF. I am starting artemis fowl though
Three kingdom is a history record with some fictious elements in it. I saw it translated into four books
I read the Psion series. The protagonist Sammmy -i think? is a genius. In fact the genius factor is even named in the book as "Anomaly Eleven" or "Tensai". They can do pretty cool stuff. The academy described is very "Ender's Game"-like though it appeals to more older readers as well.
I just finished 3 books of the Psion and although I liked Sammy as a Tensai and and liked his and jeffie's romance I would still rate him lower than Dirk from The second son's triology. But i would love to continue reading more such stuff. Do keep recommending more. I think I will start another list similar to this and ask all of you guys to comment. Also if any of the other books added in here dont quite rank as genius protagonists please let me know ANYONE

I read here -- http://www.reddit.com/r/booksuggestio... that penderghast is one of those geniuses or near to one. Not sure if he is or not. The list here is kind of confusing now. I think I should create one of my own and request members to add to it but also give a quick summary of the genius element:)> .

Well, there is no list for "smart but not genius" characters (and there will be huge overlap anyway), so I'm adding "White cat" (curse workers) and "Red rising". Varun, still might wanna check these out.
