any war-time related novel that carries heavy on the romance as a main story-line, and holds a deeply help belief, or even a suspenseful plot. I added my favorites to show you.

Have you tried Hilary Green's 'Follies' quartet set in World War 2? These books trace the lives of four friends who all work as performers in different capacities and show how they adapt their talents to the war effort. There are two romances, one straight and one gay and a fast moving story that includes an escape from POW prison, work as a secret agent behind enemy lines, the exploits of a Spitfire pilot and high-kicking dancers performing to entertain the troops. Four real page turners with unforgettable characters. Start with Book One - Now Is The Hour.
Why are war time romances more romantic???
War romances are more romantic because when any organism is faced with the threat of extinction, it turns all its energy toward reproduction which in humans translates into romance. Emotions are heightened. IMO, of course. I well remember WWII and marriages made when the couple had only known each other for a weekend. The urgency of 10 minute engagements. Truly.

Yes, do think you are right on target. I think this is a major factor in The English Patient. There were several hot romances going on.

My memory must be failing me... How is Pride and Prejudice (currently #192) a 'war-time related' novel? I mean, I know there are officers in the story (Wickham and associates) but that wouldn't make it 'war-time related', now would it?
In what way is The Kite Runner a romance? The main focus is a friendship, not a romantic relationship.
@FionaI've deleted both Pride and Prejudice and The Kite Runner, as they don't belong on this list. It seems to me voters forget to read the description ("any war-time related novel that carries heavy on the romance as a main story-line...") and just look at the title of the list....
