Pretty sure The Hunger Pains shouldn't be on here since apparently it came out in 2012. (Among other reasons.)
The reader that added "Deep, Dark and Dangerous" and "The Hunger Pains" should remove them. If you are unsure as to whether a selection is Newbery 2014 eligible please read the criteria at:http://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/...
I have removed Deep and Dark and Dangerous: A Ghost Story (published in 2007) and The Hunger Pains: A Parody(published 2012) as they are ineligible.
This does not belong on this list, Rebeca. It's for 2014 Newbery eligible books and authors. Please remove it.
I think, too, that Out of the Easy would be a highly unlikely choice, primarily because of the book's more mature themes. It's perfect for high schoolers, and therefore more likely to be considered for the Printz Medal.
There isn't a dichotomy between Newbery and Printz--many books are eligible for both. The most one can say is that Out of the Easy isn't a Newbery book, not that it's Printz rather than Newbery--and I would have to agree.

Lizzie Bright & the Buckminster Boy and The House of the Scorpion have won both Printz and Newbery honors. I think the content of Out of the Easy eliminates it from being a potential contender for the Newbery.
The Goddess Girl books can be removed from the list - all published before 2013. As can Middle School: The Worst Years of my Life, The Girl Games, The Tale of Emily Windsnap, and The Dork Diaries.
Michelle Paver's 'Chronicles of Ancient Darkness"series (Orion) of four books had me hooked. Excellently researched with personal visits to primitive sites, the books reconstruct lives and beliefs of Stone Age tribes in enthralling adventures which combine fantasy with possible truths around a teenage hero. It was recommended to me by a ten year old.
Tomorrow morning the winners will be announced. Follow the announcements live:http://www.ala.org/news/mediapresscen...
