From “Bartleby the Scrivener” to “Bonfire of the Vanities” New York has been a compelling character in American letters. The Big City Book Club aims to generate lively online discussion of those books classic and current, obvious and obscure, fiction and non-fiction in which the city features centrally.

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) Judging by the entries to be found at the website referenced, it would seem that neither Bartleby the Scrivener nor Bonfire of the Vanities have actually been the subject of a NYT Big City Book Club discussion yet, though, have they? Which probably means that, although they're referenced in the club's (self-)description, they're not to be voted for on this list, right?

Right. I suspect those will be selection at some point in the future...

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) OK, thanks for clarifying!
