I didn't vote for very many. I only voted for books I've read or attempted to read.

This list is a bit of a paradox. The more hyped up a book is, the more people are going to read it, and thus the more people are going to dislike it and conclude that it's overhyped.
Hype is a relation between the quality of the story and the marketing effort/buzz/advertising it gets. Nothing paraoxical in the idea that a lot of stuff that's popular is also overhyped.
The twilight saga are the most annoying books out of all of these books! I mean twilight is everywhere and its not even that good of a book.
I can't believe that all of the Twilight books are on this list...I consider myself a pretty good judge of books, having read so many, and this series goes on my list of the BEST books ever. I don't understand how I can be on the outs with so many other readers, I didn't think my judgment was so poor...it makes me wonder if all of these people have actually read the series, or if they're judging them based on the movies...
Marc wrote: "Potter isn't as bad as Twilight, but they're both pretty mediocre."So what do you read? Old fashioned 'Pride and Prejudice'? Do you recite Shakespeare in your sleep? Harry Potter is fantastic modern literature. Twilight is uncomparable.
I read Tolkien, Lois McMaster Bujold, Dave Duncan, Lawrence Watt-Evans, Tanya Huff, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, Patricia McKillip, and recently discovered Catherine Jinks' Evil Genius, a story about a young boy going to a school to learn to use and harness his incredible powers. Only he's an evil genius, and the school is the Axis Academy of World Domination. I also write my own fantasy novels.
This list is great!Everywhere I go, all I here about are these (mostly) stupid books.
Twilight, for a shinning example. I've never even read the thing, but I know every intimate detail due to nothing but the annoying chatter of my fellow young teenage girls. Even when it's explained in the most positive light, I think the plot is just unintelligible.
Now, I admit, I actually liked some of the books on here. However, none of them were as amazing as the public liked to convey. But, we all have our opinions.
doesn't anyone find the hunger games SOOOOO annoying~~~!!!!!! i say this because they are constantly said they are the best books ever, yet if u have read many many books you will see that they are great books but not something i would put on my best books ever list, if u know what im saying.

i as well have read many books. have you read vampire academy?? they are brilliant, everybody says they are heaps better than twighlight, try them.

I don..."I've read every one of them, which I'm honestly quite sorry to admit because each one was an absolute disaster. The plots are incoherent, the characters are flat and uninteresting, the gender politics are atrocious, and the writing is close to catastrophic. The story behind the books is compelling, which is the only thing that kept me turning the pages (that and my vampire obsession), but they certainly belong right where they are at the top of this list.
Personally, barring the Stephenie Meyer collection, of course, I think this List has been made for people who don't understand the books.
HiNew to the Goodread site and I stumbled upon this list. I have to ask what is overhyped and annoying about Romeo and Juliet and is it normal in any kind of voting system for a entry to be in more than once ie To Kill a Mockingbird (though again, God only knows what that is doing on this list?)....I think that might be called "rigging" the ballot....
I agree that most of the books here are over hyped and annoying but hey "A catcher in the rye"...over hyped?I don't disagree because it's a classic(there are other classic books here),nor because I liked it(I liked several books from the list) but because the writer avoided any form of publicity. Not only did he hide but also in several countries he insisted the cover should be a blank grey page with just the title on it.You may dislike it and say it's overrated-it's just your opinion,man- but definitely not over hyped.
I cannot believe how many of literature's cornerstones are in this list and not even a mention of the Millennium Trilogy?
