Anyone know of any other author who writes racing thrillers apart from John Francome? I believe there are a couple more...
Not yet. But Tony Hillerman is another author whose books I've read that has a similar storyteller skill that I find ever bit as wonderful.I believe I've read both authors, all they've published. I like to read them over again after they've had a while to settle, say maybe a few years later. One thing I enjoy about them is that by the time I read them again, they still seem fresh and new, though they be old friends.
Also the titles elude me, so I have to read the jacket to remember the story. The style of writing draws me in again as though I've never read it before. P.D.James is another author that I can trust in the same way.
My wife (passed) got me started with Dick Francis and Tony Hillerman books. I believe I've read them all, some several times over. I miss her advice in reading. She read ten to my one. She had the knack to finding books for me that she knew I would enjoy. I too would appreciate finding some new authors on par with these.

If you haven't read John francome's lot you might like them - very similar to Dick Francis, but perhaps not quite as well written although they both of course had the same background in the racing industry - as indeed Francome still has.
Can anybody tell me the name of the Dick Francis book that starts out with somebody handcuffed to the steering wheel of a car and the book ends with the same scenario. I read this book a long time ago and cant remember the name
I've read that one. It's one of his earlier ones (c. 1970, I think). Let me see if I can remember the title.Later: I think it's Smokescreen.
