Lee Your welcome!

message 7: by Sharayu (new)

Sharayu Gangurde I love reading Enid Blyton to relax my mind! However most books mentioned here fall under 'serious reading!'

message 8: by Lee (new)

Lee You can add some Enid Blyton to the list!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads The form to add books to the list is at the right-hand side of the page.

Sharayu Gangurde Thanks Lee and Susanna!

message 11: by Xenophon (new)

Xenophon Hendrix I interpret comfort food as being food one likes to eat when one feels emotionally vulnerable, so I likewise interpret comfort reads as being things one likes to read when one feels emotionally vulnerable.

Alexandra Re: Books by Robert Stanek:

Don't believe the hype. This book has not been recommended as claimed in the blurb. It is not a best seller. It has not won awards. It is amateur garbage that has been slickly marketed. It also is not appropriate for children.

In addition the narrator on the version sold through Audible is horrendous.

Do your due diligence before purchasing this one.

My advice: Don't waste any money or any time on this one. There is no one who would honestly and truthfully believe this trash is a great story.

There are however critiques of it on the web that are pretty entertaining. Find one of those instead if you really want to know what this book is all about.

I recommend this one: http://conjugalfelicity.com/keeper-ma...

Donna Davis Here's the thing I like about this list. It's not genre specific, but only reflects how literature makes each reader feel. There are all kinds of factors that may or may not play into it. For some, it might mean memories of childhood; for others, solitude and peace. I was surprised to see how many children's books I voted for. My kids are grown now, but there is such warmth associated with the books that I read out loud to one, some, or all of them....

The system found and removed 3 duplicates.

message 14: by Kamakana (last edited Dec 28, 2018 03:48AM) (new)

Kamakana i have a... different sense of comfort, as read in this review for 'Jealousy' and 'In the Labyrinth' by Alain Robbe-Grillet. do old childhood faves 'comfort' me? i guess the promise delivered of the new and so the pleasure got in 'adult' rereading...is what i 'comforts' me...

271218: i have had several copies of this perennial favorite. most recently i tried a ‘comfort read’ list and ended up discounting all these of other people that i had rated less than five, read the suggestion that these be rereads i go to for certain pleasure, easy reads, confirming reads. but then i like and am comforted by ‘difficult’ reads, get great certain pleasure, relaxation, exhilaration, that does not come from just any book. so i searched my shelves of ‘favoritenonfiction’, my ‘favoritefiction’, started on my... then i decided this is ridiculous! ‘comfort reading’ is for me often ‘literary’ or ‘difficult’ on top of the usual childrens classics that no longer really ‘comfort’. and then there is maybe work that means more only from this or that time or place or... this book is comfort reading for all time... i have given this finally to riley my illustrator friend and told him the story is told in images, like a graphic, but in words... he is skeptical. i want to hear his take on however much he reads...
