Slow start--Hang in there! (3 books)

It occurred to me that I've read a number of books that started off slow, but really picked up into something worthwhile after the first 50 pages or so. If I'd given up sooner, I'd have missed out on excellence. So, here's to patience paying off! This is the place to recommend books with delayed gratification. :)
