Is this the "Best ROMANCE novel" list? sure doesn't look like literature to me...

Best bondage? Best books of 2014 for people who think 50 Shades of Gray was the best book ever written? Come on people. I like fluffy science fiction novels sometimes too, but they are not the best books of a given year.
Just started a list for Best Books of 2014 That Are NOT Erotica. Feel free to add books there if this list doesn't suit you.
joni wrote: "Is this the "Best ROMANCE novel" list? sure doesn't look like literature to me..."Agreed. Even though romance is the #1 sales genre right now, the list is so heavily skewed that it appears someone salted the mine from the get-go. I added a bunch of titles that are from other genres, but since I didn't get in from the start, mine are toward the back of the list. I think I will also check out Ashley's list (message #6).just noticed that TWO people voted for the same untitled book (no cover of course). Sorry to have added mine now because I've provided a faint whiff of legitimacy to what really looks like a cooked list Not willing to spend time removing them, but definitely heading for a different list!
Ashley wrote: "Just started a list for Best Books of 2014 That Are NOT Erotica. Feel free to add books there if this list doesn't suit you."Thank you for doing that! I am going to do the same thing for 2013. I don't have a link, but will label it the same as yours, only substituting the previous year (so a whole 12 delicious months of good reading!)
My guess is some publisher of real crappy romance novels decided to create this list as a way of free advertising for their titles. Way to ruin the whole point of this site!
Ashley wrote: "Just started a list for Best Books of 2014 That Are NOT Erotica. Feel free to add books there if this list doesn't suit you."Good move.
Kristyn wrote: "I agree with Joni! Why are all of the "best of" lists just full of romance novels urgh?"Don't understand why the romance novels have taken over.
I added the book the creatures you meet at the bar - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... Has anybody else here read it? It's the funniest book of the year for sure.
Silly list. Where is Wuthering Heights, Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and other classics books? Everything on this list (except some of them) are lemmon and banals books since my point of view.
joni wrote: "Is this the "Best ROMANCE novel" list? sure doesn't look like literature to me..."Wow, I was just about to write something along those lines...
I guess I can forget about getting tips on books on these best of lists
no Arabic BOOKS? so i add my red soil تراب أحمر.why do i add it?
it is a story in anew beautiful place, Zambia in Africa, where no way to run, no money to live, only a wife and her husband in front of an unfair manager, you can touch the fear, love, and also you can feel the power of faith
this is such a reliable list. thanks “good”reads.hahahahahahahahahahaha what the fuu is that number one book? siriusly? hahahahahahahahaha
obviously only middle aged women vote on these kinds of lists i reckon. haha
The Queen wrote: "Silly list. Where is Wuthering Heights, Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and other classics books? Don't think any of these are currently being voted on as the best work of fiction in 2014. This is laughable!
A GREAT READ!!Twenty Seven Million; Brian Neary's Twenty Seven Million is the best book I've read in 2014...period!
I am shocked butt hen I noticed this list was made by deleted user and that answered my questions. Now I am going to check the other list but I wish this list was not so featured. I do wonder how do they get those people to vote? Is there a site where they ask people to go and vote and then you might win something like a romance novel? lol
Sonja wrote: "quite right; all this is trash; where is the literature?"about 50 years ago? this list os for 2014

I don't want to start a hot debate about what makes good literature, but if you don't like these books, don't vote. But please show some respect and don't trash other people's reading choices just because you disagree with them.
AJ wrote: "I don't want to start a hot debate about what makes good literature, but if you don't like these books, don't vote. Trash or Treasure is in the eyes of the beholder!
AJ wrote: "I don't want to start a hot debate about what makes good literature, but if you don't like these books, don't vote. There's no doubt that romance is a popular genre right now; this too shall pass.7 duplicates found and removed.
I'm sure this is a great list for fans of romance and erotica, but even accounting for popular taste, it's statistically unlikely that every one of the best 100 books is from the same genre. I wonder if the moderators could help with this problem. Seems like we need two (or more) lists.
David wrote: "I'm sure this is a great list for fans of romance and erotica, but even accounting for popular taste, it's statistically unlikely that every one of the best 100 books is from the same genre. I wond..."There actually is another list that excludes erotica.
Donna wrote: "David wrote: "I'm sure this is a great list for fans of romance and erotica, but even accounting for popular taste, it's statistically unlikely that every one of the best 100 books is from the same..."Could you link that list for us?
I just woke up and when I saw this list, I thought maybe I was still asleep and dreaming. Thankfully, the other comments made me realize it wasn't me but the list. Really? I'm used to seeing the same books with a few different ones but I don't know any of these. I might expect a list like this "Inside Edition" but not on a book site. Yes, I freely admit I am a book snob who still likes to read some bubble gum books, but these? No thanks!
Because of the way GR does their lists, something that is read/voted on by a lot of people gets pushed higher due to the points associated to voting for it. Something voted for by 20 people, even if they all ranked it 11th on their list will show up higher than something voted 1 by 10 people. This is more a popularity list than a 'best of' list.
John wrote: "Come on people. They're fun, but I difenitely would not consider them the best books of 2014...
