Readers who love historical romances (or historicals with romantic elements) should try author Anya Seton (mid-20th C. British). She must have done years of historical research for each novel because the details are so vivid, the reader can almost believe she's living in that period. Some of her best novels include Katherine (14th C. England), Green Darkness (16th C. England) and The Winthrop Woman (Puritan America).

Love is Eternal is also a great book on love. It's about Abe Lincoln and his wife, from his wife's perspective. Sorry, forgot the author's name and the name of Abe's wife.

Irving Stone, and you are correct: a great love story. Also John Adams as per McCullough's bio--the exchange of letters alone tells the story.

Isabella Swan, American Girl: Wears rags most of the time, dresses up in blue, likes one particular vampire despite, survives hellish childbirth. Likes to ride rehabbed motorcycles with her werewolf friend Jacob. Clean, rough-n-ready gal. Her spunk reminds some readers of Sarah Palin (gaggh). Last line of Breaking Dawn was to be "Reader, I married him" but editors nixxed it.

I diasgree because when you meet someone that special their life becomes yours and yours is theirs. Its like they traded, they are so absorbed of being together and it is a great love story... Not the best but it is an extrodinary series

I totally agree! Twilight, and different books like Ella Enchanted are good, but I don't really think they're all about the love story, and they just don't have that feeling that moves you like Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, and even A Walk to Remember. Bringing such a touching story with someones faith in God makes it so amazing. Not to mention, no one, not even Edward, can compare with Mr. Darcy!

Jane Eyre: Jane & Mr. Rochester *sighs* My fav book! Love them!!

Pride & Prejudice: Mr. Darcy & Elizabeth one of THE best love stories EVER!

Outlander: Claire & Jamie I love them and their unique love story set in Scottland, it just melts you!

Wuthering Heights: Catherine & Heathcliff His love for Catherine drove him evil and yet that fierce undying love that is still holding on even after she has died *sighs*

Romeo & Juliet: Classic love story of star crossed lovers doomed from the beginning. A love that couldn't be stopped even by death

Persuasion: Cpt. Wentworth & Anne: I was rooting for them to get back together through out the novel & when he writes the letter to her professing that he is still in love with her....I love it!

Twilight: Edward & Bella hott Vampire love, you cant go wrong lol

I just can't believe that Twilight is above Wuthering Heights and all those incredible books. I think that many of the people that voted for Twilight hasn't read any of the classics, because it is impossible not to hate Twilight once you have read Romeo and Juliet.

Alright. I have many things to say. First of all, it would surprise you how many teens would read the classics if Robert Pattinson starred in the movies. They don't know about the classics and the read what the media sells them. But I am a teenager, and I can clearly recognize the difference in the quality of the writing. Stephenie Mayer has a great imagination, but, in my opinion, her books don't deserve to be so close to Jane Austen's or Charlotte Brontë's in this list. Just think of it. Twilight is above Romeo and Juliet, a book that many people came to refer as the greatest love story of all times, a girl, a vampire and a wolf can't beat that.
And I waste my time to tell the world I hate Twilight because I can voice my opinions, just like you said (:

"The teens" could go on and vote for whatever cheap book they choose, but no list will change the fact that the classics are the true, worthy form of literature.

And, just because Twilight is extremely popular right now, thanks to the entertainment industry, it does not mean that people'll remember it, bother reading and discussing it with their friends after 50 years. Will it survive that long, anyway?

Yet, true literary classics, such as; Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre will probably be read by our grandchildren. I claim that, because they survived, and will survive by the help of mature readers -- who have a higher taste in art.

The most obvious love interest of "The Little Prince" is the rose he has left behind on his planet (and whose lie had made him run away in search of other worlds to cure his sadness in the first place). Arguably, also the Little Prince's relationship with the fox embodies love (albeit the love contained in friendship, not romantic love); in any event, it is the fox who teaches the Little Prince the meaning and special importance of both love AND friendship ...

I read most of the classics on this list when I was a teenager. I have also read the Twilight series but as an adult. In an argument about style or contribution to literature, certainly twilight would lose in scholarly comparisons.
However, if we're talking about an emotional, not intellectual, response, which as we can see by the comments is something completely subjective, then I would personally have to say that Twilight should be on the list.
Another thing to consider is that novels like Wuthering Heights or plays like Romeo & Juliet are products of a different time. For those of you trashing Twilight as a blight to literature, would it surprise you to learn that Wuthering Heights did not receive rave reviews when it was first published? In fact The Graham's Lady Magazine critique stated "How a human being could have attempted such a book as the present without committing suicide before he had finished a dozen chapters, is a mystery. It is a compound of vulgar depravity and unnatural horrors."
So, perhaps let's leave Twilight's contribution or lack thereof until a broader perspective can be gained.
Or let's just enjoy the fact that this is a list about people's opinions on The Best Love Stories and not a list entitled The Most Significant Works in Literature. Side note, why is The Great Gatsby on here? Love story? Bah.
