My fave is 101 Salivation, it's a collection of dogs photos by Rachael Hale. I think she made wonderful photographs of the dogs. The pictures always made me smile ;) I'm so grateful to have that book :)

Flush: A Biography introduces us a great story, evolving around Elizabeth Barrett and her pet Flush. Yet, I cannot call it an ordinary "dog book", because it's heavily focused on the British social class system, and it has a strong philosophical depth.

There are numerous lists here that don't care about content as they only want the word in the title so that could be what caused the confusion. I just voted on one of those.
I hope a librarian will delete the ones that don't fit here. They are the only ones who can do it.

The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant was a great book about the famous football player who was convicted of dog fighting. It gave a lot of information, some not so pretty about the ins and outs of the inhumane treatment of this terrible sport. But it did have a happy ending for many of his fighting dogs. Avery good read.

Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man by Michael Hingson was the best dog book I have read in quite a while. It's about a blind man who survived the 9-11 attack thanks to his Guide Dog who helped him and 76 others get out of Tower 2 before it went down and got him to safety. At the Dog Hero Awards this year his guide dog was awarded 1 award and ended up being the Hero of the Year!!! Get this book, you won't be sorry!!

There are books on the list that do not even mention a dog in the title or in the pages of the book. They seem to come for one member. One of the books that do not belong is "Fifty Shades of Grey"! Others are the Harry Potter books, Twilight, The Lovely Bones, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splended Suns, The Life of Bees, etc. Hopefully the member will edit her list or a librarian will remove the books.

The Ten Best Things about Barney is about the death of a pet CAT. Should not be on the dog list.

Quite a few of these other books should be removed simply because dogs are such a very small part of the book.

Does anyone know of a children's chapter book about a boy who owns a dog, and he later finds a three-legged dog. He's only allowed to keep one, so he chooses to keep the three-legged dog. It's been driving me crazy that I can't remember the title of it. I just remember that the book really upset me as a kid because I was upset that the boy gave up the dog he'd already had for a long time who must have loved him.

Nice list! I have read 44 from the top 100 and 145 from the total of the list. I am not trying to read book 2+ in the mystery + dog series.

Anyone who want to have more conversations on dog books might want to consider joining the group with just the name 'dogs'. I have even started a conversation on the 83 lists of dog books. There is a lot that could be talked about with dog books.

So I started working through this list from the back. I have read a lot of the books in the beginning of the list (after I take out volume 's past book 1 and children's books).

Always dangerous when I do more research on dog books as when I research them, I go 'oooh, that looks interesting,' and then I go 'I wonder how much a used copy would cost.' This time for me I was pretty good, I only ordered two:

Search Dogs and Me: One Man and His Life-Saving Dogs by Neil Powell
Muster Dogs by Aticia Grey

(Not sure if that first book was on the list, I think I was looking at another book, and in a review it mentioned the book on Search Dogs I ordered.)

Then I added another 28 books to by TBR book list I keep in excel.

Fun list, but wish it was cleaned up. Some books just have 'Dog' in the title but don't deal with dogs. Others have summaries that don't mention a dog. Lot's of kids books and volume x in a series. Not sure what can be done on them other than to push them off to other lists.

Still a fun list to go through. it is so hard to know about all the dog books that are out there. Unfortunately the ones in the top are more 'most well known' dog books.
