Misfit How did Twilight get on this list?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads That's what I was wondering.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Deleted for ludicrousness on this list:

Twilight.

Thank you.

GoodOl'Magic Why is The Boy in the Striped Pajamas here?

And can't Philippa Gregory get anything right?

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I think the Boy in the Striped Pajamas is here because it's impossible. How could a nine years boy studying in a German school be so ignorant? I mean, I understand the misheard names, but he was not affected by the brainwash, his sister was not in Hitler Youth, he heard only a few things about Jewish people. He was not taught to adore Hitler or to hate his enemies. He even believed that Heil Hitler was a way to say good morning.
Victor Serge said that his son studied in a German school when he was four, in the thirties. When people asked what would he like to do when he grew up, he answered "kill all French people".

Themis-Athena (Lioness at Large) The Holy Bible?!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads I'd like to hear an explanation of that one!

message 11: by Clarissa (new)

Clarissa Lol at Phillippa Gregory.
Seriously, I'm awed by how wrong she is.

Why does she even bother?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Because it sells?

message 13: by Clarissa (new)

Clarissa The question was rhetorical..I know that it sells.

But she should consider writing the story accurately--then she'd sell more.

Just my thoughts. :)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Oh, I agree entirely!

Clarissa Susanna wrote: "Oh, I agree entirely!"

I think most people like her writing, but if she was accurate, she'd have an entirely new fanbase. :)

Danna How is The Pillars of the Earth inaccurate?

- Women wearing their hair loose.
- Literacy being common.
- People drinking beer (beer needs hops, which weren't introduced to England until the 16th century; before then people drank unhopped ale).
- A monastery taking in an orphaned baby portrayed as an unusual occurrence, instead of the common event it was
- Lack of religion permeating people's behavior and thoughts. Nobody seemed to pray when in trouble; there was no mention of patron saints; religion didn't motivate anyone other than the priests. For me, this was the most obvious inaccuracy, and particularly odd in a book about a cathedral.
