Calvin and Hobbes is definitely a good 'self-help' remedy.

I would also *highly* recommend the book "Days of War, Nights of Love" by a group called "CrimethInc." - it will fill you with self determination, and it continually begs the question - why do we always take so much of our energy to please others and yet, not ourselves...

Twilight and New Moon. In both of them, I hate the protaganist, as well as her boyfriend, so I was rooting for James. Not Eclipse though, because the werewolves were helping them, and I like the werewolf characters much more. (Thought I do like Alice, Emment, Roalie, Jasper, Esme, and Carlisle)

I can not believe 'Skinny Bitch' is even on the list. Wow that is sickening. I have nothing against that type of a lifestyle. I DO have a problem with the way they continuously insult and degrade their readers. You can call it 'tough love--blah blah blah.' Its worse than most dietary books because it wants to prey on your insecurities to sway you to its own moral agenda. I say MORAL agenda because that is exactly what it is. Losing weight and getting healthy is SECONDARY. If you look at the calorie and nutrition info on the back of some of the alternative foods on the list given--they are in fact worse or just as bad. They are also setting a caloric intake that is not ideal for most women on a day to day basis. Whatever. These authors are two half wits that happen to be vegan and have barely a brain cell to rub together between them. Most diet books are bad but this one is deceiving making it all the worse. If Victoria Beckham didn't carry that book a few feet and happen to get photographed with it I wonder where It would be now....

I'm just coming across this list and I couldn't agree more with your observation. I'm a dude but I read one of the "Skinny Bitch..." books and was appalled. I guess this type of snarky writing style is indicative of the millennial generation.

Yes. They are vegans who are promoting a vegan lifestyle. Any weight loss is purely secondary and would be a happy side effect. There are plenty of other books - cookbooks - that will promote healthy vegan eating, if that's the path you want to take. The "Skinny Bitch..." books are pure marketing hype. Period.

This is a great book for the young in preparation for life and as a self-examination of character, values and choices. For the older it is a reminder that life is what you make it, and it's never too late to make the right choices for ourselves.

We all make choices in life everyday about little things and big things. These choices define who we are. You choose who you are and who you become through YOUR decisions. You control who you become.

The purpose of this book is for me to share my view
of the choices we all have and how I have tried to
live my life. My views have been acquired through
the relationships and interactions I have had with
family and numerous friends over the years,
particularly with my parents. I have been fortunate
over my lifetime to have had many great friendships
with many ethical, caring people of high integrity.

You know who you are.

If anyone is managing this list, a huge percentage are fake votes, almost certainly purchased. Any book that only 160 people have read is not "one of the greatest self help books of all time."

Authors buy votes to make it look like more people like their books than do.

Books in positions 5, 6, 7, 9, 17, 23, 32, 39, 41, 42, 51, 56, 59, 61, 63, 65, 71, 72, 74, 75, 77, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 83, 85, 86, 89, 91, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98 should all be removed from the list.

If a librarian were interested, you'd almost certainly find those same books and authors have equally mysterious appearances on other "best of" lists on good reads. For instance, the person in spot 23 is one I often see with fake votes on lists all over goodreads.

It really seems like half the top ten on any list should not be made up of fake books/votes as is the case here. By my count, at least 37 of the top 100 are fake votes.

What a surprise that this other list shares almost all the same books with roughly the same number of fake votes for most of the books in question.
