I finished Ulysses! My senior seminar in college was on James Joyce, and we spent most of the semester on it. I still haven't been able to muscle my way through Finnegans Wake, though.

Sometimes life is too short to slog through a 'classic'. If I'm not enjoying a book after 100 pages in, I abandon it. Ulysses I have tried twice and had to give up on. It hasn't left a hole in my existance. ;-)

I have so many of these I don't know where to start. Although one of them is a book I won't even think about reading even though it was chosed as the best Finnish book written during the first 75 years of independence in 1992. It hasn't been translated so here is the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alastalo... For example choosing a pipe takes over 70 pages, so hmmm... And the sixth chapter is called "you can easily skip this chapter because in it happens no more than in any other chapter". But you could then get a t-shirt that says "I have read Alastalon salissa". :D

I was sorry to see just now my book, `Blood River’ vanish from this list. Apologies to the 90 odd members who voted for it. I am trying to work out where those votes went.
