Just wondering... Is this supposed to be the 'vaginal' or 'virginal' fantasy book club?

It's not a typo. It's a tongue-in-cheek name for romance and fantasy fiction with strong female characters.
OH! I thought maybe it was pointing to fantasy books that woman enjoy, but I like your version better
Can I just add this entire list to my want to read list?
Yes, you can, but only one book at a time. Pressing the big green button adds the book to your want to read bookshelf.
If they read Carmilla please watch some of the youtube show and talk about what you think of that too
Questions:1. Is there a way to remove the books we've already read as a group?
2. Why in the world there are non-romance books in here?
3. Is there already a thread stating which books actually have sexy times in them?
Answers:1. No. Everyone who voted for the book would have to remove it and that's just not going to happen.
2. VF is about more than romance. While most of the picks have a romantic storyline, it is not absolutely required. Also, people are weird and/or don't read the header.
3. Not that I could find. We totally need one though.

There is a way. Which books did you want removed? (I just joined recently, so I don't know which ones were already read.)
The list also serves as a source for recommendations for everyone, so there isn't any great need or desire for me to remove books. I am curious how though.

Okay thanks. You'd think they would give that option to the list creator though. BTW the VF "read" bookshelf has all the past picks https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

It looks like you should qualify for librarian status if you'd like— gives you a few other options if you like messing with metadata. https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/1...
I am really hoping Uprooted doesn't get picked as our August read :( since I will already be reading it for Sword and Laser.... Isn't anyone else in both book clubs?? and why would you want to read the same book in both???

Personally the reason I'm a member of these particular book clubs is because I like hearing the hosts talk about the books in podcast/youtube episodes. If they read the same book I just get to hear them talk about it even more, which I think is fun. Or they might do some kind of crossover, which I would also enjoy. Obvisouly I can only speak for myself, but I generally have no issues with it.

Wait, what? Romance is not required? I thought that was the whole point with the club. (Should I facepalm myself?)
Linnea wrote: "Wait, what? Romance is not required?"Well, if by romance you mean gratuitous sexy times, then no. Although most of the time people are hooking up with somebody (or something), some books are disappointingly clean.

No, I'm not talking about sexy times/erotic parts at all. I realise they may not be present in every pick. The term "romance" means more than that to me though and I did believe the point of the club was that we read books with romance in them. And yet you say romance is not required, which has me slightly confused. But it's quite late at night in my time zone atm, so that might be why, lol.
@ Linnea That's all right, I was just being silly. Specifically, a "romance novel" is one where the physical and/or emotional relationship between the main characters is the dominant story arc. In a book like "Fortune's Pawn", the relationship is important but secondary to the main plot. As such, most VF picks are not romance novels by that definition. No facepalm required.
The dominant features of a VF book are strong female leads and a genre/historical setting. It's important to note that I said "not absolutely required". Most if not all of the picks so far have had a love interest, even the YA ones. So yes, they have "romance" in them, but they are not necessarily romance novels which is what I meant to say. Ultimately, a VF novel is whatever Felicia says it is, and I'm okay with that.
It's also sometimes confusing when one person means romantic themes and another means Romance Genre, the second one being a specific set of tropes. Most of the picks will have romantic and/or sexual themes, but only some will conform to Romance genre requirements. The picks often come from SFF, or even occasionally Mystery, and follow those conventions instead. That said, there are a few books on here that I'm hard pressed to recall any romance in, but that may just be that something in those books meant more, or stood out more to someone else. Most that make it to official pick status will have at least the beginning stages of romance. :)

Ah yes, I see the source of the confusion now. I didn't interpret "romance" quite the way you seem to have meant it. (Though to be honest, you could have expressed yourself a bit more clearly.) My meaning was that VF books were supposed to have "romance elements" (primary or otherwise), but obvisouly they need not all be of the "romance genre" (which I never thought to begin with).
@Sanasai, yes I'm surprised by a few books on this list as well (Ancillary Justice, On Basilisk Station, to name a couple), but as Sean says it's ultimately Felicia who decides what does or does not fit into VF. And I trust her decisions. :)
MJ wrote: "Just wondering... Is this supposed to be the 'vaginal' or 'virginal' fantasy book club?"VAGINAL! I assure you that none of us are virgins!
@Linnea @SeanWhile I'd prefer more explicit sexy times, having at least a romantic relationship type thing (with at least some yearning for love or sex) is what I meant by "romance."
Fortune's Pawn is an excellent example of a Vaginal Fantasy book to me, but I also think Poison Princess is a great example. Well-written tension goes a long way to add that "Vaginal" element to my Fantasy. :P
